I like mine since it play music, reminds me of things I need to do and syncs with Outlook quite nicely. Games are also nice for the long bus trip to school .

I have an old 8MB Palm Pilot from 2001-- was valued at $600 when I first got it! Black and white--- now it's almost completely useless

If only the DS had some kind of scheduler--- that would be awesome.

IPAQ 4150 I believe. Is the really small one with Bluetooth and WiFi. Loved it about a year ago in Paris, using this french translation software to take my spoken command and translate into french on the fly. Was pretty cool. Plus browsing the web and sending my dad an email from the hotel foyer was amazingly tops for some reason.

Got to love them. Plus get 3D pool. Is pretty cool.

Cheers

I have a Sony Clie NX73 - It's quite cool you can fit like two full movies and several CD's worth of music on it and take it around with you. Good for long car journeys etc.

Yeah, I did that with T3. Thought, wow this is really cool, and the quality is pretty good (256mb per film compression setting, which is just about right for the size of screen IMHO). Remember thinking I get a max of about 4 films on it at decent quality (or 8 at 128mb, but is not so good compression at this point). All very good, but I don't commute on a train, and am rarely away from the house for long periods. Plus I've recently got a 104" projector setup, and T3 looks a lot better on it. Rats.

Just wait for those hitachi drives (approx 10x storage in same space isn't it?) then will probably get at least 400gb in a teeny PDA. Hmmm. Good quality at 256mb? Should get around 1600 movies in 400gb then.

Cheers

I could get movies on mine but the stupid Kinoma Producer has an error when converting my files . The Palm lifedrive sounds cool with the internal hard drive but I heard it lags whenever the hard drive boot up. I want to get a T5 as my next Palm.

I have an XDA II. The button layout is great for landscape gaming. Unless a new PPC comes out with a better D-Pad and 4 hardware buttons on top, I'm not replacing it. Plus, it's fun to program for it (not like them Java potatoes).

I have a newer Dell Axim. PPCs are really handy, this thing keeps track of my schedule, contacts, small notes, has games, music (which is great for long boring plane rides), and GPS software.

what's the battery life for all of these?

It depends on what you are doing. Activating certain things eats at battery life. If I play a game off of an SD card that drains my battery big time. Playing music will last six+ hours. The battery on my Tungsten E will last me throughout the day. I use it heavily. Charging it doesn't take that long. PPC battery life I am not so sure. Torrey may be able to answer for you since he says he has a Dell Axim.

With the regular factory battery it'll last 3 hours. I also use a backup battery that is designed to last even longer, which is around 6 hours. If you use a regular battery and start playing some games that include video it'll kill your battery in less than a hour and a half. Deep Thought was right about the charging, you can charge up any size battery in an hour (or less).

i was thinking that since i started school, a PPC of some sort would be nice to have on hand, and they're not that much anymore, just a few hundred dollars
so after I get a job and work for a bit i'll get it

It depends on the manufacturer as well. My battery's 1200 mAh, lasts about 9-12 hours for average stuff like taking notes. It really helps to turn off the backlight when the screen is still readable. IMO PDAs are designed to go back to charging as soon as you get home. Even though mine is phone capable, it won't replace my Nokia just yet because it would drain the battery (though I use it when the Nokia dies on me ^_^).

Listening to music or playing 3D games, I'd say six hours as well. Then again, Palms and PPCs are running on similar processors already by now so battery life is more or less equal. But you won't go camping with any of these units and expect them to be alive when you wake up.

But the Axim is different. I'd assume Torrey's is the one with a big VGA screen, so it probably needs a more heavy duty battery than the one that comes with the unit.

Indeed, my regular battery is a 950 mAh, and the backup is a 1800 mAh. I think Dell makes one size bigger then my backup, but I wanted to cut a few dollars on my extras.

@Joel: You'd be amazed at what these things can do now, especially when the PocketGCC compiler is installed I use it to test our programming exercises in class, and recently I've been playing around with graphics using Game API.

my brother has an older iPaq, he let me use it for 2 years while he was away from home, it was kinda nice to have on me, but it couldnt do much more than emulate NES roms or take notes...there was only a VBScript 'programming' something or other that you could get for it that actually WORKED a little.
