Hi everyone I've decided that my current project has gone far enough for a WIP post, which I might benefit from. (e.g. tips, feedback, et cetera)

The project is called Cavern of Flame, and it's made in DBC.

EDIT:

Demo + Screens will be back up soon

hmmm.. looking really good.. I liked the transparent sprites..

But it seems like you're going to have some problems with that
skyBox (or is it temporary?).. due those lines.. but it doesn't
really matter

just keep this up..

I know, all that stuff (guns/ammo/sykbox) is DarkMATTER 1, and that texture came with it. Thus, I dunno what I'll do with it, seeing as I can't edit DDS files. Might replace it with a skysphere if it turns out to be a major problem.

Soon as I get my website up, The Nerd.

EDIT: Not very exciting right now though. Just go around, shoot at nothing, and collect ammo, there's still not much to do until I get collisions/raycasting finished. Then you'll have my dodgy physics system to mess around with

Looks awesome!

I love FPS's... especially if there made in DarkBASIC!

Looking forward to a demo!

You're really doing a great work, man.. =]

-----------------------------------------------------

Oh... just one suggestion (if you want, of course):
The sounds are great, but.....
you could close those sounds to the player don't just
*cut the shoot.. So I think you could put a distance
between last and next shoot or clone the sounds

Keep this up.. it is really good so far.

I haven't checked the download so I am going by the screenshots:
Where is the cavern? Where is the flame?
Looks pretty good and I'll try the download.

andrew neale:
The cavern and the flame don't exist quite yet This is the landscape of the training level. I'm working on the game engine first, collisions, raycasting, that kind of thing. Levels themselves are coming in last.

Louiz ofRohr:
I'm not quite sure what you mean, though I get the idea that you're talking about when you repeatedly fire and the sound just gets cut off. Am I right?

You dont need a new skybox...your just missing some code.

Set Object Texture #,2,0
Set Object Ambient #, 0

Where '#' is the object number for the skybox or plains making the skybox.

Other than that it looks pretty good....you may want to get a grass texture that tiles slightly better though.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks a million baggers! Just look at that line-less skybox:

Jack: It's just some code I found on the forums. I was about to code it myself, but I saw this snippet, pasted it in and it worked, so I just left it there. Here it is (not sure, but I believe it's actually Zotoaster's):

Where did you get that landscape(matrix right?) code from? I have no clue how to shape a matrix like that without random.. lol.

Well then, I'll give you some information about the game.

There's really no story, as it isn't technically a story game. It's a deathmatch-style FPS, with all bots. You will run around, earning a point for each kill, and losing a point for each time you are killed. You'll have the option to set either a time limit, or a kills limit. When the limit is reached, the person with the most points wins the round.

Also, the guns arn't actually GUNS, they're laserguns. I made the yellow flash as a temporary muzzle flash, but in the end it'll all be green lasers.

There will be no multiplayer support. How come? There just won't be

But maybe (this is just an idea) I can make it so that there are CFG files for each style of bot, so you can create your own styles and assign a specific style to a specific bot.

P.S. (Can't edit, I had to start over and now I'm noob slapped), Xenocythe: That is a MultiScape terrain file that I imported into DBC. Works very nicely, actually.
