Hi people:

Is there many diferences betwen DB & DB Pro? I've read them on the web and it seems really much more powerful DB Pro, but in the practice, is the diference so big?

Thanks.

Yup, the difference is very big. Search the forums, this question has been asked before.

Here's the Comparison Chart:

Personally I like programs that have a lot of "yes"es by their features.

(don't get classic, you'll be happier in the end, even with the bugs)

I know DBC is not as good as DBp but think of it this way, everyone who plays your game will have to update their DX to play (if made in DBP), but almost EVERYONE has at least DX7 on their PC. Also DBP requires more memory for the games (I think) and you should have a better graphics card. I'm going to stick with DBC until GPu's on graphic cards come with at least 256 megs standard.

I think there should be a change for people with a newbie slap. Instead of getting the user profile screen when they login newbies should get sent to a FAQ screen.

I agree with you vgames master: games made in DBC works in low specs computers and I suposse It's a good think. At this moment I prefer to produce DX7 projects .

I've got both having recently upgraded to Pro, its DEFINITELY worth it, its faster, better 3D tools, and fixes & upgradeds are coming out all the time.

Well, needless to say, this does sound quite interesting to learn the differences. My guess is, you would only go with the Classic version of DB if you're on a tight budget, and if you only want to write light, casual programs. Otherwise, the Pro version is the way to go at all costs. To me, I only went with the Classic version due to the fact that Pro would've been a little much at a time like this. Eventually I'll upgrade to Pro, but for right now, I'm just transitioning from QBasic and Visual Basic, and it may take some time. Once I get REAL good at DB, THEN I'll make that upgrade. It's better to grow into the small stuff, then work your way up, IMHO.

I write programs for use in schools all over the world and many schools are not overflowing with money and just can't keep their IT systems up to date enough to run programs written in DB Pro.

DBC will have to be good enough for now.

The difference between DB Classic and DB Pro is choice.
Freedom of choice is as important as freedom of speech.
Some people can take DB Classic and produce a masterpiece while others using DB Pro or even the new FPSC produce nothing.
Thoughtful advice to beginners to guide them towards using the codebase is much more helpful than using terms like slap etc.
The person that never had cause to ask a stupid question has not been born yet. Bear this in mind.

DBC compile large amounts of lines much faster than DBPro (so i've heard) but you wont recognize it until your at 15'000+ lines.

older PC's support DBC better than DBPro.

DBC give you love, while DBPro give you Action.

DBC uses dx7 while DBPro uses dx9 which give you the ability to make sweet games with awesome graphics. not many have accomplished that though, only a few.

but then again, listen to what Medusa said.

in the end, DBC may be better than DBPRO.
you can make a game with terrible graphics but awesome gameplay in DBC or you could make a game with awesome graphivs but terrible gameplay in DBPRO. not saying that's the way it is though.
you can make a game with awesome gameplay and awesome graphics in both languages.

though i yet to buy either, i would like to add my two cents.

the big names in the PC gaming industry have been focusing on eye-candy more and more, taking about from the gameplay. graphics are nice, and i love being about to see the difference in types of tree's, but the more space that graphics use, the less space is giving to story line, maps, and features.

on the subject i'v brought up, the major slump that the PC gaming industry is in was cuased by those same big name companys. so long as they refuse to ditch this 'band-wagon' practice of making the same game that someone has made simply becuase the first guy made alot of money for it; the industry and the players will suffer. how many of you have stormed the beaches of Normandy? and in how many different games?

just wanted to say that, not it discourge those that are wanted to make a game becuase they have idea's that they feel would make a better game of that type, but to remind people that new idea's may not work too well, but at the same time they could be the next big thing.

Today is a good day, at least compared to tomorrow.
And every day is a good day to die, becuase then, there is no tomorrow
