In windows task manager, i just discovered that you can change the priority of a process. Would it
Quote: "cause system instability"
if i did this to try and speed a game up?

I've no idea what would happen actually. It'll probably be harder to task switch out of it, and it may run a bit too fast (if its not programmed correctly), but anything else is unknown...

Put it too high and it will disrupt other system vital processes, which will cause instability..if windows was any good it would close processes and lower their priorities till it was stable. And i doubt you'd get a worthwhile speedboost unless the engine was so badly coded that it's slow normally

No, it won't cause any problems. It is usually handy for dvd ripping when you start the process and then leave your computer until it finishes.

If you try and use your computer when you have a process running at high priority (unless it is the app your using) then it will be slow. If you have a dual core processor then you can also change a programs affinity.

thats what i do if i run limewire or a virus scanner and a dbp or other hi-intensity app simotaneously

Windows automatically silently adjusts process priority based on the active window and whether the system is Idle... well, it does in Vista and I don't think it's a new feature
