This is basically a little idea I had. Those of you who play a lot of MMOs will have probably have heard of an application called TeamSpeak. This application allows groups of people to communicate using microphones. It is best visualized as MSN but with microphones. Although this program is mostly used for gaming (mainly in guild wars and world of warcraft) it also has aspects to it beneficial to more than just games. The application could be used like a form of IRC and so people could connect to a TeamSpeak server that contains channels built around these forums.

Here are the key points to my idea:
-Use microphones instead of just text
-It's split up into channels e.g. general, DBP talk, db talk etc...
-Each channel can support up to 300 people at any one time.

Here is what the channels look like at the moment:


This idea was just a random thing that came off the top of my head so at the moment I am just testing the theory and so the server will not be online 24/7. Below I have written exactly how to get TeamSpeak working:

Getting TeamSpeak
1. Download the following file (which was taken from the website www.goteamspeak.com)

ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/4players/teamspeak.org/releases/ts2_client_rc2_2032.exe

Run the exe and continue until it is installed.

2. Run TeamSpeak and you will see this:


3. Click "Connection", "Connect"
You will see this screen (or similar)


4. Right Click the word "Servers" and click add server, type in a name and then input the following to the fields on the right.
Server Address: shadows.game-host.org
Nickname: Whatever you want to be called
Anonymous: Make sure it is selected

Then click Connect and you should be connected to the server.

Online/Offline
If the server is online you should read the words online below and if not then the image will not load:


Finally
I just want to try and get this going. Any suggestions would be nice!

Ah, i had TS installed and all that (for America's Army)

but i unninstalled it recently to make room (well i deleted the AA folder and the TS stuff was inside )

lol, well the problem is that this wont really work if there are only 1 or 2 people on it. Still its an idea for the future .

Yes this wayall the little kids could scream and yell at us until he got muted...i think it'd make a nice way of keeping us from all getting to much carpel tunnel but hey whatever...

Dont use quick connect, use connection, connect like I said...

Also do not put a login name in because you dont have an account registered yet.

Yeah but there is no notification sound so you never know if you get sent a message! I dont think they did a good job with the text system.

I think the text system is just a 2ed priority its mainly just a VOIP system thats it so not much thought went into the text system i know =\

Yeah, to me it looked like they rushed the text system but it is useful for sending download links and things like that.

This would turn out perfect... the moderators could moderate by looking through the channels and when they hear something bad they go back in time and mute the offenders voice!

Plus, I don't want any of you to hear my hilariously strange American accent...

Yeah, but a channel for every board. I think thats about right. I tried ventrillo and I hated the gui, its hard to use compared with teamspeak.

Well when I tried it, I was kind of tired and was desperately trying to win the hall of heroes in GuildWars, but I couldn't really get the hang of ventrillo... Also, if I remember correctly there was more log in information than teamspeak, but they're both good I spose.
