Hi,

I was wondering if it possible to do this kind of 3d/2d technique that was used in games like the Longest Journey and Syberia (FFVIII also I think) with DarkBASIC? I dont know if they use a z-buffer technique or something like that. Thanks!

It would be best to have your 2D backdrops being sprites, because they refresh even with a 3D screen (unlike bitmaps.) So yes, it is in fact, very possible

All you need to do is to split up the background image into pieces of background and foreground, i.e. anything the character can walk behind is drawn using another sprite to the main background. Then you can check to see where the 3d character is and draw the relevant sprites over the top of it. It also helps if the camera angle you use corresponds to the one used when drawing the background image.
