It is a lot of money to a person who doesn't have a job, and I don't know if it's worth it. I have only written a program like pong (with the help of your guys tutorials) and I have no idea on A.I. programming. So, is it worth the money for someone that knows absolutely nothing like me?

I have the books and I think I've only used it about 5 times since Christmas last year (2004). Although, I've hardly done anything too hard. IT does halp when you aren't sure of a command and need a quick guide, or you want to know how to use a command.

Here is a list of the chapters in order:

The book does cover quite a bit and does help from time to time. So I only suggest getting this book if you're a COMPLETE beginner and know NOTHING of DarkBasic Yet. I hope I helped!

David.

Here's how I've come to think of it:
Are you uneasy with basic programming concepts, or are not yet ready to sit and evaluate a problem, and work/think out a possible solution without writing any code? If yes, then the book would probably be useful. The book helped me a bit, but I never finished it, mainly used it to get used to how DB did things in comparison to QB & Blitz.

Well, having had books in the past from other forms of the BASIC language, some of which I won't disclose, I can say simply put that having the Beginner's Guide for DB would help to a point, not as a complete ground up on the BASIC language itself. I have a good knowledge on other forms of BASIC, like QB, VB, LB, and so on, which most books I've seen cover.

However, to convert the code structure from those forms of BASIC to DB, I propose that there should be a book for those who are familiar to BASIC that would like to convert from QB or VB to DB, that there should be a way to learn the DB language vs. the other BASIC languages. I'm trying to convert to DB myself, which is difficult, having programmed in VB and QB a long time. Of course, both of those have been hung up to dry, so to speak, they are sort of getting old.

Having said that, this book may help to start DB from the ground up, but there should be a second book geared towards those who've been there with other BASIC languages that would like to convert to DB, and learn the ropes of getting into DB without too much hassle. That sounds like a winner to me.

If there was one wish for the world, it would be to promote peace, laughter, happiness, joy, and love throughout the world, and cherish what we love the most.

I would say, it's probably not worth it

I don't have it, and it could be the best ever, but if you don't understand what it's telling you to do, you're just as stuck, but a bit of money down as well

This forum will probably cover everything the guide does and much more, and provided you don't ask questions that have been asked like 50 times already, people should be able to help you, and will probably do a better job than a guide ever could though

Obviously I'd be more justified if I actually had the guide, but that's my thoughts on this...

...maybe one day I'll finish a project
