Can you believe that, according to this AP poll, Bush's approval rating is down to a new low of about 40% because of public doubt over Katrina? I'm alarmed that the public seems to be so ready to blame Bush on things that obviously aren't his fault. I don't know if you remember, but even before the hurricane started, he was telling everyone to evacuate. And then, even before I knew it was that big a deal, Bush claimed the event a national disaster. Bush obviously did his part. The problem could have been any number of the government officials under Bush, right down to the mayor of New Orleans. Also to blame could be the bureaucracy set up by past administrations. It's just frustrating to me that it is now a standard public reaction to blame Bush. Thank you, Mike Moore.

Im with you 100% People will do ANYTHING to blame Bush....hes NOT God, he cant control the weather. He TOLD the people to evacuate, it was the New Orleans governor that didnt fulfill that order, and the peoples own choice to say. FFS People, if your looking for someone to blame its YOURSELF for not getting out of that area when you KNEW what was coming...

More political threads!!! Aaaaah!!!
Anyway, I think the public isn't blaming Bush for the hurricane. I think it is more that the mayor is bashing everyone else saying that it is their fault. Passing the buck. What an idiot mayor. Quit blaming people and spring into action! You didn't see Giuliani giving speeches blaming people on 9/11.

Damn you took the words right outta my mouth.

I think the Mayor is partly to blame for this, because no single person could have cause/prevented this. Im glad that
FEMA guy got reassigned tho, he was way to underqualified and was the meaning of an idiot. But in the end, every one of those people chose to live down there knowing about hurricanes, and were even stupid enough to stay down there with 3 WEEKS of warning! I can understand why a lot of ppl died in the tsunam, because they had like 3 hours of warning(for the ppl that even knew...), but here, in perhaps the most technologicaly advanced country in the world, people are dumb enough to think they can survive a lvl 5 hurricane. I live in tornado ally, thats like me having a barbeque during an F5 tornado warning instead of heading for the basement. In the end its a combination of many things that caused this.

yes, havent you looked?

But anyways, i do feel sorry for those such as the children and elderly who could not physically move by their own will. But thats like me trying to ride out an F5 tornado, my chances, even ina basement, are slim to no0ne of surviving. Those people down there better be damn happy katrina spared them a direct hit, if oyu were watching the radar, a huge red blob dissappeared right as it was about to hit new orleans... . I also feel sorry for those in small towns, who are not getting as much attention as new orleans.

Mayor can do nothing outside city walls
Govenor declared State of Emergency on 26th
Hurricane hit on 29th
Flood started and killed lots of people on 30th going forward
Bush and supplies showed up 5 days later

Its too damn bad that most of you were 6 when we had 8 years of peace and prosperity, the rich getting richer, the poor getting richer.

Believe your damn eyes and ears - Bush=neocon agenda, which = no middle class, 2 caste society, dirt poor, filthy rich - end of story. Support him all you want, he doesnt want you.

I just want one thing explained to me why are people accusing him of being racist wasnt he at some black organization during his campaign. I dont understand why! could someone enlighten me.

And your basis for this is...

You sound like the typical Bush-hater, which is causing your opinion of his job with Katrina to be hopelessly biased. Also, if what I'm reading in this source is correct, and the hurricane hit on the 29th, then the feds responded to the disaster pretty much immediately. (Not five days.) Also, keep in mind that no one knew how much damage this hurricane would cause. It was a freak storm.

Warning: this page looks to be liberally biased, with condemning attitudes toward the Bush Administration and sources primarily from liberal newspapers.

Edit: This might be a better source. Read the last bullet on August 30th.

Bush's approval rating is down because more people have seen the picture on the internet where he looks way too much like a chimp (I wish I could find that picture again). Also the entire system failed in Katrina (city, county, state, and federal) not just the Federal Gov.

I've said this before...

Its not Bushes fault all these people are stuck there, its the hurricanes'

But what is Bushes job? Is it to get richer and richer by getting oil from differant countries, and sticking his nose in other countries' business and pissing them off....or

To use his power to protect and support people in his country, and control it to work for the best, and well in that job he would do everything in his power to help those in a natural disaster.

So you can't blame him for the hurricane, but can blame him for not doing his job, like if you were a cleaner, and didn't clean the toilets, you'd get the blame, its not your fault they're dirty, but its your job to clean them, but with Bushes job his involves lives, if he don't like it, do what most other people do, quit and go job hunting

Bush got aid to the Tsunami victims quicker than Katrina victims....now why could that be?

Federal Aid was pretty much immediate, but the main force of it was delayed because most of their infrastructure was completely destroyed. Even we cant make 9 Million MRE's just appear in 2 hours. The army and national guard also doesnt like to run blindly into something, they always plan wich still takes time. Did you know that 10 months(i beleiev, it was eithe 9 or 10) before katrina, the govenor ran an evacuation simulation, and it failed horribly? And to date, no significant changes were made to that plan? Also, more money was spent in bushes presidency on the levys, than in the entire clinton presidency. I think the FEMA guy is an ass in my opinion tho, he was underqualifed for his job.

Exactly.

I wouldnt agree with that statemant for a second(*cough*conspiracy theorist*cough*). But even if it were true, i live comforatbly in the top tier of our society. (top 1%), so i wouldnt care either way.

Quote: "we had 8 years of peace "

I am hoping you arent refering to the clinton administration, dont get me wrong, he wasnt all that bad, him and bush are on par with each other in my mind. But you cant compare the two, 9/11!!!!!!!!????? Did you forget, the whole reason all this crap started was because of 9/11.

In my mind, the only reason we interfere with the middle east is oil, without it we cant survive. If we were to just to leave the middle east, our stand on that land would begone with our oil. What i want is some alternative source like hydrogen so we can just let the middle east blow the crap outta each other like glorified idiots, and not us.

Arhhhh.. Alright, I haven't read the rest of this thread, BUT...

Bush did indeed warn the governors of the states quite a few days before hand that they needed to evacuate. I belive it was Lousiana that said "we don't need three days, we can evacuate in 25 hours". Bush's fault? No. Some wisearse Ms. Government down there didn't listen.

However: how many of you are aware that for the first time since (I belive it was) cinco de mayo (may be wrong, but it was some date) the Mexican army has volunteered to assist? The Canadians have offored their assistance, and Russia had sent word that they were standing by. But no.... Bush had to say, we can handle it ourselves and REFUSED AID from Canadia and Russia.

Besides, all that's happening is that the media is recconizing him as the gas powered turbo tard that he is (in case you can't tell, I'm a democrat)

And finally.... notice that with 9/11 - Bush -> approval ratings up. but Katrina - Bush -> approval ratings down? That's because all he did is come down and chat with the news reporters for a photo op. Did he go into the superdome? No. What about Dan Rogers (nbc newscaster), Opra, ah Harry Connick or whatever his name was. They went. But Bush? Nahhhhh....

The error with Katrina was that the Americans first went in to assess, then to fix. In national disasters like this, you DO NOT ASSESS. You know you're going to be overwhelmed.. so the first thing you do is send in the army and any volunteers you can gather. You give your subordinates the abality to make decisions for themselves so everything happens faster. And finally, you never, never let the national vichael fleet just SIT THERE because they don't want to go in and because their officer is too cowardly. It was on national news, the frikkin' news reporters were in the superdome distrubiting what they had, while the people who were supposed to be doing that, i.e. ambulances, aid vechiles, were just idleing.

Jesus christ, are you out of your mind? That allows federal agents to look through your frikkin' LIBARY RECCORDS, through all sorts of personal stuff, all in violation of the consiution, and you say tou LOVE IT????? Gayness.

He may couldn't have been able to control his pants, but he was so much a better president than Bush.

Supporting my claim:

Bush Quotes

Quote: "No you're not going to see me stay put... I am not going to forsake my responsibilities. You may not see me put as much - I mean, un-put as much"

Quote: "I think I've got to do better in making clear what the message is, and I think I can do better. But I think there's so much noise out there that I've got to figure out how to make it clearer that we are for the things that I have advocated that would help"

Quote: "If a frog had wings, he wouldn't hit his tail on the ground. 'If.' Too hypothetical"

Quote: "Nasa isn't rocket science"

Quote: "Literacy is important for your child so he or her can pass an exam"
- the first bit isn't exactly right, but the last 8 words are.

http://paul.merton.ox.ac.uk/misc/bush-quotes.html

Facts

Between the start of his Presidenacy and September 11th 2001 Bush spent more time on holiday than at work.

When asked what his favourite childhood book was Bush replyed 'The very hungery catapillar'. This wasn't published until he was in Colledge.

Bush has had at least one DUI.

Bush said, before he was first elected, that if you asked him weather or not he had taken drugs in the last 7 years he would say no, but when asked if he had taken drugs any time prior to the last 7 years he wouldn't answer.

The Bush administration started with a $1 Trillion tax surplus. They're now in a $1 Trillion tax deficit.

There was no real reason for going to war for Iraq, no WMP were ever found and Iraq had no link to September 11th.

Bush gave tax breaks to the RICH and not to the poor, who have suffered tax increases.

Do you want more?
