I was just wondering, as i have recently hooked up my xbox controller to my pc, if anyone else has done it?

It might sound a bit mad - but an xbox controller is just a usb device, so you can use it on a pc.

I built a small adapter for psx/ps2 controllers but I haven't tried with an xbox controller... though I might well do later since I prefer them to the Playstation controllers, fit my hands better.

more buttons as well - something not alot of people know is that all the buttons on a xbox controller are analog - if you lightly press the white button, for example, it will send a different signal than if u bash it

another random fact about xboxs - did you know that the hard drives have no shock protection, so if an xbox is dropped whilst it is on it will wreck the hard drive, hence the break-away cables

I tried it with a ps2 controller once, but it didn't seem to work.

I have yet to test it with a xbox controller...

Using a xbox controller, to play games is far better.

yeah but without using the xdk or openxdk you'll never be able to use it will you?

all you need to do is buy an extension cable from somewhere like currys chop of an end then attach a usb connector to it, simple, just remember not to connect up the yellow wire

PS2 controllers do this aswell. Im gonna have to try hooking an xbox controller up to my pc, it would be useful with a lot of games to use a controller rather than a keyboard.

all of this seems like a "useless waste" of time, why not just buy a fricken PC controller?

Why not use a keyboard and a mouse? Or have FPS games simply gotten too cool to be played with a nice accurate mouse.

Unfortunately the quantlity of PC joypads is starting to go downhil - Logitech ones (which used to be pretty good), are now cheap, plasticy and rather feeble.

I´m waiting for the 360 controller to come out and then I´ll use that. No need for adapters either. Whilst we´re on the subject of adapting pads. Does anyone know why the only games that are compatible with my adapted ps1 pad are the ones I make? It seams strange that both DB and glfw are compatible with it but no game I´ve tried has worked so far. Need for Speed almost worked. As in it detected it´s existence a bit.

"Unfortunately the quantlity of PC joypads is starting to go downhill"

the x-arcade and hot-rod sticks are great... but those are traditional arcade style sticks - unfortunately basic pcs sticks and pads do seem to be going downhill fast.

"xbox sucks"
Um, not really. I'd love to know what brand new PC or console you could buy for 100 quid that could outperform it...?

"Does anyone know why the only games that are compatible with my adapted ps1 pad are the ones I make"
Maybe because dbpro uses standard drievrs for all pads/sticks but most commercial games search for specific commercial types which have the drivers installed in windows? If you haven't done already, install generic drivers in windows for the pad, most gaems don't auto detect or guess nowadays unfortunately...

I have a document that describes how to make an X-Box -> USB Lead.
Doesn't need a converter as it already supports USB, silly Microsoft doesn't just cash in on it tbh

This said the X-Box 360 pads are compatible with Media Center 2005 PCs.. so lol no worries eh

Given Alienware are still selling Media Center PCs after 2 years... my guess would be far more than that. I'm also sure that Microsoft are adding in the support for the X-Box Dashboard to directly connect and utilise any Media Center PC as just som frivilous feature given the low turn-out of the software your claiming there is.

I mean I always feel the research and development team focused on the silliest of things like adding Playstation Portable or I-Pod access out-of-the-box .. I mean not many people have them either, it's hardly worth the effort, eh?

I tried that. I will try again. Windows detected the pad as a psone adaptor and the cd installs a ps2 addaptor. Maybe becasue I´m using a ps1 pad. Thanks for the tip.

No, of course not. Microsoft has never made incorrect business choices (other than blindly missing the Internet boom). Given the fact that there are more people with XP than Media Center, it would make more logical sense to provide hookups for it. But whatever, my modded Xbox already streams content to my entertainment devices.
