thats right! work is fun

i finished school and started as a Trainee at some college. or is it Senior High.. err.. the school you go to when you are 18+. (i dont know what its called in english, and england and america have different names.. confusing, confusing)

anyway, im working as a computer administrator trainee its fun i have access to everything and everyone i even got a skeleton key to the school its so awesome.

and this means i can finally get what i always wanted to have:
mp3 player
car lisense
car

and best of all: i can finally get me a new computer
some of you know that my computer is broken, so im using my sisters and sometimes my dads. they are 2 and 5 years old

so here is what im going to buy in october when i get my money

from -> upgraded to
AMD Sempron 2500 -> Pentium 4 HT 3.0ghz
256mb ddr -> 1024mb ddr
200+70gb hd -> 200+160gb hd (the 200gb is my disk and ill move it into the new computer)
geforce 4mx 64mb -> Radeon 9600pro 256mb
and well that is the most important things.

if i add 1k more (in norwegian 'kroner' 10kroner ~ 1$) i get winXP home and a 17" crt monitor

if i add 1k more (total of 7600kr ~ 760$) i get a geforce6600gt!

this is so cool, and my life has a meaning again

but then again.. if i buy that computer i wont have any money for the rest of that month and that sucks.

The "joy" of working will soon diminish as you get people asking stupid questions; wanting you to fix hardware, like, yesterday; getting reoccuring BSOD on certain computers due to running dodgy software that someone has installed; trying to fix network errors; rebooting servers and getting complaints about that; getting hardware manufacturers to get someone out to fix said hardware; people actually deleting system files because "an e-mail told them too", and having to re-install Windows; having to set-up new Windows machines.

Oh yes, it'll be fun...

Hope I haven't put you off work

lol

so far all ive had questions about was:
the mouse is not working -> just reboot dumb ass...
i lost my account password. -> how is that even possible?
some class was about to have a test, and i had to block their accounts, give them new ones that are specially created for tests on computers: where they have no internet acces and can not communicate with each other.
also ive installed some network printers and moved computers all around the school.
later this year, or next year, im going to setup wireless connection all over the school. just waitng for hardware to arrive and the school is under construction some places and when it is finished we'll start. (we = me and the other trainee)

but most of the time im hanging out here at apollo

good system chioce but personnaly id rather spend the extra k on maybe a faster prossecor, sempron 25000 only run at below 2 gig.
just a thought but still a nice setup,if you can get time with your work an all.

just edited it...i meant 2500 not 25000

One thing that you'll notice working in IT, the higher up you go, the less the b******s know!.

One of the MD's here dropped their Laptop down a staircase - then was found shaking the thing like an etch-a-sketch because they thought it would fix the black bits on his screen.

It may be worth going for 64-bit processors & OS's now (especially the processors) - the only slight problem would be lack of drivers.

Quote: "the mouse is not working -> just reboot dumb ass..."

It would never occur to them. And it wouldn't help if they had pulled the mouse out of the socket

Quote: "i lost my account password. -> how is that even possible?"

Quite possible : Earlier they had a brain transplant - swapped what little brain they had with a potato...

My best experience of this was in a place I worked for 6 weeks...including my notice period.

I (a developer) was given the Director's PC, so he could have a newer, better one (to play Solitaire on). Knowing nothing about computers whatsoever, he didn't delete anything, and I soon discovered his concerns about "Personal Relationship" problems amongst older, overweight men.

I hope you keep enjoying the job, Lukas. So long as everything stays a challenge rather than a chore, you should do well.

That will be University in the UK.

And it's not entirely true about people higher up being stupid. Just seems that way. I believe it's only the ones that you have to deal with are amazingly thick. The others are so good that they can avoid all work whatsoever. Brilliant. And don't make it obvious that you think you know more than they do (because you do obviously), as this very rarely goes in the right direction (trust me on that one).

Cheers

lol, microsoft would probably want 85% of if the money you get, for using their os.

Quote: "And don't make it obvious that you think you know more than they do"

im trying to pretend im at the same position in computers as they are.
i dont feel good by saying: im better than you, so shut up and listen. (not exactly those words, but you get the point) its not right. so when someone needs help im pretending to think of a solution and hoping they will come with one. if they dont, then i just say: yeah, how about we try this. and i fix the problem.

i dont know if this is good or bad, but i think its bad... later this year i think i must teach the teachers how to burn CD's, use the printers and copy machines etc. etc. now that is scary, people who are 30+ years older than me, and im in charge. its like school is upside down what has happened to this world

ah! didn`t you know? you can either do it or teach it, what you can`t do is both, oddly enough I know four ex teachers (one a colledge lecturer), and although they all have a outside school interest in their subjects, they are all hopeless at em, most of what they do looks like first year student efforts, one science teacher I know has a masterpeice of technology on show in his living room, one of those dinosaurs made from cut out peices of ply, he has glued it together, mounted the arm bits on some naff home made pivots and powered it with syringes for hydraulic rams, fed through bits of plastic hose from two other larger syringes, it looks stupid and only works one way (you have to push the arms down to reset em), plus the hoses blow off and spray water all over, he uses it in class to make hydraulics "interesting", thought of it himself he did

as for teaching people 45 or more, you had better start practising talking down to people without seeming too and holding a straight face (and keeping the exasperation out of your voice), three years on and my father still can`t tell the difference between a file and a exe, nor does he understand why just opening mediaplayer will not automaticaly play the file he was thinking of, he doesn`t even remember to turn on the external drive when he uses it , or that he has to save files if he wants to play em later, or that web pages are cramped purely because he refuses to close the search sidebar since he thinks he would not be able to find anything if he did, I normaly hear a cry for help two to six times a day, most often because a message box has popped up and he does not know what to do (are you sure you wish to empty the trashcan (5 items)? yes/no) sigh!

the average IQ is 100...but the people that took the test where trying to look smart. most people don`t go over 50.
Area 51?, I`m more intrested in what they have in areas 1 to 50

lol, i thought i had posted but i hadn't i dont want to rewrite all that again

anyway

i found another computer at same price, different setup. and it have this video card:
XFX GeForce 6200 TurboCache 128mb max - 32mb installed.

i have tried to google this card but i couldnt find any information about the 32mb part. what is that?! can i upgrade it? i also found out that it have sm3.0 but i hardly doubt that it will run as smooth as a 6600gt?

edit,
does anyone (from sweden or norway) know a good place where i can get a nice computer for less than 5600kr? im going to build it myself and i rather buy one from sweden to save some cash 80nok = 100sek

Not doing it for work, but my current major is "Compouter Network and Systems Administration" , turns out I know absolutely nothing about computer hardware and troubleshooting. I didn't even know how to unplug the hdd cable! The only thing I got right was taking out the memory sticks!

OMG!!! Word your sentences a little better!

Anyway. I still am in high school. We always try to outsmart the tech staff. They have a stupid security filter for the internet. Which can be easily bypassed by installing Mozilla's navigator on a flash drive and carrying it around. They block acces to command prompt as well(dang!). Wireless network is unsecured. People with PSPs are accessing certain things on the net. They also blocked all flash movies on the net as well. TGC is still open .

No, YOU are confused... considering there's no T in "considering".
That and C# is part of their master plan. You think you're getting it for free, but it's all comming at the cost of your FREEDOM. At the end of the day, you'll see Microsoft will find some way to lock it down like they're doing with OpenGL in Vista. You'll see... You'll see... You'll see... You'll see...

Good on you for getting yourself a job, it is always good fun to amaze people with solutions to seemingly complex situations.

With your domain, I would say go for lukasw.com, mainly for the fact that it is nice and short. Oh, and if your ever thinking of using Netfirms as a webhost, please be so kind as to click on the referring link on the home page of my site before you sign up.

Durdge39,
yeah i was thinking the exact same thing.
and ill get me my host from "b-one.nu" its cheap and great. also comes in a variety of languages: English, Danish, Ger., French, Dutch, Norwegian, sweedish.. but i have to be 18 to register.. so ill have to wait 3months

edit,
3 days ago i met this chick! omg she is so hot and since that day she's strangely enough had problems with her computer each day but i doubt it has anything to do with me, but today she couldn't log on to the computer, and it was just as simple as plug in the tpcable again.. so im wondering: was it coinsidence or did "someone" pull it out well, one can always dream

also there was this dude and he asked me why the computer wasn't responding when he pressed the keyboard. he showed me the computer and he pretended to know alot about computers (it seemed like) and he told me the power was turned on because there was this light on the monitor. (orange light ) the problem was he hadn't turned on the computer. i dont get it, how can one not turn the computer on, or atleast check if the computer is turned on

I did warn you

yesterday I saw my dad furiously deleting search results from the sidebar, so I asked him what he was doing, reply was

"I have all this **** in my favourites, it shouldn`t be there so I am getting rid of it"

"er! dad! you have the search results open, favourites is that icon there...the star!"

"thats what I clicked! I`m not stupid!"

note the tact creeping into the conversation here.......

"oh it must be a browser bug of some sort, it opened the search results by error...just close the side bar and click favourites again"

"oh! hey! thats better!"

sigh!
