Not sure how many here read the site, it\'s never been my favourite online comic; but I still ready it regularly.

A week ago or so, the admin or the site deleted a forum area called RoM (Rants of Madmen). An area that had spun out of his control, with moderators rather than keeping the area clean were actually encouraging and joining in with the crap.

Now those who don\'t know Tim is currently away in Canada, doing .. well hell if I know. But regardless he\'s away right now with limited access.

Yesterday, one of the rival comic creators \'borrowed\' the site and started slagging him off. Actually he not only layed into CAD but also VGCats, and there are a few other references in there to some crazy crap.

Thing is browsing the CAD forums it seems, no one is entirely sure if this is a joke or not. Gotta say, I\'m a little confused too. The news page is one thing, but the comic was even \'updated\' to a dig at Microsoft. Anyone who has followed the comic for a while (or talked to Tim) would know, that he has a slight affinity for the Softie aspect.

So just wondering what others thought of the \'situation\'?

when I first read those news posts I figured out right away that it was indeed a joke, And as Tim posted as the last news post, he said it was a joke brain and himself had worked on setting up for a while

I thought it was quite funny myself.

Actually, it's Brian, not Brain, and he's the artist for 8-Bit Theater, http://www.nuklearpower.com.

The thing I find funny though is Raven didn't realise it was a joke, even though he posted this post after it was revealed as a joke on the main page.

I saw it on a live news broadcast yesterday. They milked it for all they could. For about an hour they kept saying "It's going to land any minute." About 10 minutes after it landed they switched to news about the newest hurricane... gotta keep the suspense up. :-(

I'm glad it wasn't it didn't end up a horrible fireball... but I bet the news guys were dissapointed it turned out ok.

Is this comic series a ripoff PA or is it the other way around?

It's a very blatant rip off of PA and the author proudly won't deny it

In fact, this "fight" they had was a blatant rip off of a fight the PA guys had a few months back.

Oh and Grog, wrong thread buddy

That's what it looked like. Same characters, same sarcastic friend along with the other wacky guy, random appearances of video-game loving girlfriend, and identical industry jokes.

That bold text wasn't there when I posted this. Don't have a clue when it was added but certainly as hell wasn't when I posted this cause I was reading it at the time.

well i've seen this happen for real on a few sites in the past... oddly happens quite a bit in the mod scene. the whole EvolvedQ2 vs EGL for example; that whole thing was retarded.

didn't find it very funny tbh, just more confusing really.

You do realise that...thats not the only post on the page, right?

If you scroll down, using this little bar on the (usually) right side of your browser, the page moves down! See, isn't that a nice little trick? Now, if you keep going down, you start to see these other boxes with text in them, indicating new posts.

Eventually, you get to this post.

It is a post, posted on "08:21PM Wednesday, September 21, 2005", before you made this post on this forum, which shows IT IS NOTHING BUT A JOKE.

Shows how observant you are, maybe you need to go get your eyes checked or something.

Congratulations on giving me a nice laugh Raven

Come on, they're not even insulting eachother, how could you think it's real? There are many blatant give aways! Don't tell me you believed his story about losing his passport, Scott getting killed when he was skipping the border and him having to dump the car in a lake? Seriously.

I'll stick to PA, thank you.

ALL OF THE BOLD TEXT WAS NOT ADDED WHEN I MADE THIS POST!

I'm not sure how much more plain I can make that for someone to understand. A fantastic thing about CAS, is that you can go back and edit things as you see fit.

For example the strip that is up is about Microsoft, however the original strip was about Blizzard & WoW (which is no longer available.. wonder if they'll put that back up cause I prefer that one)

But sure it's obviously just me... and the rest of the CAD forum that didn't see that text oddly prior to it being added to the site sometime AFTER MY POST!

What? What the hell page were you reading?
The entire bitchfest was about Tim stealing everything that Brian did first. To me that seems plauseable because, well I've seen fights over pettier things. Copycat behaviour is a big one to rile ppl up. God knows what page your were bloody reading.

EVERYTHING ABOVE THIS POST IS A JOKE.

My plane landed safely in New Haven a short while ago, and I am now home.

Honestly, I thought Brian's first post gave it away immediately, but apparently a whole lot of you still fell for our little practical joke.

Brian often "remixes" my comics as a little private joke between us. He believes that all gaming comics should automatically consist of nothing but "omgz teh Xbox controller is teh HUGE!", and we get a good laugh out of it. We decided to take it one step further while I was in Canada.

We've been making our newsposts stupider and more obvious as the day went on, but surprisingly a lot of people still thought it was real. I got an email from someone in New York offering to come pick me up and drive me to New Haven. Wow.

If you fell for it, don't feel bad. Just smile, laugh it off. It's no big deal.

If you picked it up right off the bat, congratulations. You have a keen eye for sarcasm, parody and allusion. Not to mention a sense of humor.

Everything that took place here was planned in advance, including the nasty things we said about eachother. We do comics for a living, and if you can't laugh at yourself, you have no right making jokes about other people.

Brian is a very good friend of mine. He wrote the foreword for my second book. There is no bad blood here, so you can relax off the trigger of your 'angry email gun'. We were just having some fun.

The Canada Fan Meet
01:32AM Thursday, September 22, 2005 - by Absath

I wanted to post about the Fan Meet we had at the ZeStuff warehouse on Tuesday.

We had done one the first time I went up to Canada, and it was a lot of fun. I only gave about a day's notice, and we had 50-60 people show up. This time I gave a whopping three day's notice and we have over 100 people over the course of the hour and a half.

It was really great. The fans were such wonderful people, and I really enjoyed getting to talk with them and hang out for a bit. I wish I had gotten to spend more time chatting with everyone that showed up.

Especially the three college students that showed up a half an hour late because they had walked ten miles from their campus to come see me. You guys are crazy, but it was really flattering.

If I hadn't had all of those books to sign, I would have hung out longer.

Speaking of which, I signed my name over 4,000 times in the past few days. Terribly boring and mind-numbing, but all of the books that needed to be signed are signed, and they have started shipping en masse.

Some people have already received theirs, and informed me that they were very much worth the wait. So keep an eye on your mailboxes. You should be getting your books soon."

You posted 22nd Sep 2005 08:01 my time... absaths time is 2 hours ahead of mine...

So.... by that math, we have 6:21pm - 8:01am, making about 13 1/2 hours before your post...

That means that it took more then 13 1/2 hours for people on the cad forums and you to read that lower newspost? Seems a bit slow by internet standards...

Oh dear, you REALLY don't know how to scroll down a page, do you? You do realise that there were 4 or 5 successive news posts between Brian and Tim after the inital post? What exactly did you take this quote to mean in the 'revelation' post:

Quote: "We've been making our newsposts stupider and more obvious as the day went on, but surprisingly a lot of people still thought it was real."

I refer you to Preston's post: The thing on the right hand side of your screen is a scrollbar, it can be used to move down the page.

Again.. IT WAS ****ING THERE WHEN I WAS POSTING!
I seriously don't know how the hell to explain this anymore plainly for retards to understand that.

THE BOLD TEXT IN ALL OF THE NEW POSTS FROM SEPT 21 WHEN THE JOKE WAS BEING DONE WAS NOT THERE. IT WOULD DEFEAT THE POINT OF THE ****ING JOKE TO HAVE IN BOLD TEXT AT THE TOP OF EACH POST THAT IT WASN'T REAL!

But I'm sure your all right, I mean that would be just soooooooo funny to sit there saying.

I count 7, I'm seriously starting to doubt your ability to read a website. 'Revelation' being the post where he 'revealed' that it was a joke, boy, I didn't think I had to explain what the word revelation means as well.

Just as a slight note Raven, Before you had created this thread about those posts, I had read every single one of them Including the one about Tim saying it was all a joke. So when exactly did you read those posts? Did you read them a day before you decided making this post? Or did you write this post right after you read the first few posts?
