Yeah, I think I posted this a little ago, and I was directed in the direction of Cedega.
They have a free version, but it seems rather complicated.
All I want is for 4 games to work:
Half Life 2/CS: Source
Counter Stike Condition Zero (my friends dont have source, so i still play this one too)
Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne (that's the expansion)
Diablo 2: LoD

But if it's going to be hastle to install ALL of those games WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM (well, i guess i could go without CS:CZ and D2:LOD, but i'm assuming that CZ wont be too hard because it has support for GL), but i CAN'T spend any money on this (so dont tell me it's only $15, blahblahblah)

anyway, cant anyone point me in the right direction to COMPILE and INSTALL cedega then any other sites that will help me get those working? I've googled it, and I didnt get much out of it.

Thanks guys

Torrent Cedega...

J/K

...

I think you'd pretty much have to just buy Cedega...

Unless you used WineX, is that even free?

Cedega IS WineX

and they do have a FREE version, you just have to compile it yourself, and I need help with that

And if anyone else has a suggestion to use something else other than Cedega, tell me, but i figure it's the only good one

on a linux system you usually cd to the directory with all the files in and type

make config
make build
make install

but some things need you to do speacial stuff to get it to work

it might be worth looking into vmware as it allows you to run windows under linux, but iirc they haven't fully finished the 3d stuff in it yet

Actually there was this OS I heard of a while ago, it allowed you to play windows games fairly easily. The functionality was just kinda built into the distro and you installed and ran the games in the same fashion.

Let me try and find the link.

Ah, here it is.

Jimmy is a real Windows fan. I suspect he's really Bill Gates in disguise.

Heres another one, but without a whole lot of DirectX support:

I'm a link and like to be clicked

Still pretty early beta, though.

Sig changed for lagging up browsers.

@the_winch:
I tried that site before, actually.
And I was using Xandros, which is a Debian whatnot.
so where it says:
Quote: "Debian users can just use:"

i typed that command in as root, and i got owned
it gave me some error, i cant remember, it's been a week or so.
so i went on with the installation, and about half way through i got an error, i'm assuming it's from those preinstalls that didnt finish.

iirc there are Linux versions of them. The MacOSX version *might* work with Darwin. As that provides Mac/Win support for MacOSX and Unix (BSD).

there should be a list of what is required in the readme
once you have those installed it's as simple as doing

./configure
make

should work on most variants without issue, provided you have the dependancies.

again setting up the games and running should be in the readme.
failing that you can open up the wallet and pay the $15/30 and use their system. installs everything for you, and runs everything for you when you use msi/exe installers.

a few games have issues but on the whole most work find.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 
