He got his thoughts down, and may have clarified some ambiguities for other users. Sometimes I don't want a "tutorial", just a cut and dry explanation of how the damn thing works, which is what his tutorial is."

Most people when they write a tutorial they actually know what their talking about. Darkbasic Mad appeared to just barely learn the command himself. A newbie writing a "tutorial" for other newbies is not a place for that newbie to learn how to code. In the long run it doesn't help any newbies when they're told bad information. The only thing they'll get is flamed for calling it a tutorial. If we want to learn how a command works we look at the help files and experiment. Encouraging a newbie to write tutorials every time he/she learns a new command is crazy.

It wasn't meant to be a flame. I just observed the kind of code he was posting on the forums and deduced that people shouldn't expect a better GTA than the real GTA. In fact i'm shocked that people expected so much out of him... everybody knows he's new to programming.

Yes, I give him credit for trying... in fact I give him more credit for getting back on the programming horse even after all the flames.

If you look at that tutorial thread you'll see that not only are we discouraging him from making another tutorial but we are encouraging him to learn code better. None of us want him to stop programming.

Now I have to go back to your previous message. Your thoughts about writing a tutorial is "the best way to learn" is backwards thinking.

Here's some examples of backwards thinking:

-The best way to learn Algebra is to teach it.

-The best way to become a doctor is to operate on patients the first day of medical school... without any training.

-The best time to learn to drive is just out of diapers.

-The best way for kids to learn about gun safety is to give a child a loaded gun... and let them discover themselves that it's bad to point it at their head and pull the trigger.

Not a bad idea, but...this time I could get banned, maybe if I did anti-Jahova witness's then maybe no one would be so offended or 'Only Mormans go to heaven and god is actually a buddhist' but I can't steal theory's from South Park can I?

@ Darkbasic MAD: I am sorry but you insist on being a idiot, I realy think you should be newbie slapped, you post a 6mb exe (uncompressed) on filefront totaly unrelated to anything you have attempted so far, no surprise to find that when you download it, it does not run, (I was giving you the benefit of the doubt), at least it did not have a virus in it, which is what I expected from someone who seems incapable of intelligent thought, I half expected your machine to be riddled with all sort of nastys that had got into the file, but if it is they didn`t get that far, I am from this point on going to ask for a newbie slap for every stupid post you make in anybodys thread but your own.

we know where area 51 is, but where are areas 1 to 50?, and what do they do there?.

yeh, the point of this isnt that he's a noob coder and showed off something small and puny. the point is he came in IRC and flamed other newcomers, one example being jack, calling them "noob" when they tried far harder than he did to learn, and to be fair, this jack guy, who dbmad called a noob, came a long way in 2 days, im impressed with his progress.

dbmad needs to stop inspecting splinters in other peopels eyes and look at the great big plank of wood thats sticking out of his own.

DarkBasicMad,

I personally, and a lot, will not be amazed by a simple load image and paste image command....

Create something that is at least playable, then add it to the wip, at least people will give you a bump to support you.

Also your images must be a object in order to have a collision between the character and the building...

Go read the darkbasic command book, open up some pre-made projects and learn from them, print the projects source out and write messages on it, telling yourself what the command does, like I used to...

Good Luck!

XpProUser is right.. I remember I was maing this crappy space ship game. It looked ok, but all I did was some flying... and that's it, the thread didn't last any more than a few days.. But trust me, break through the thick wall that comes between you and making a second level to your game.. and you will find that its a walk in the park to finish your game, (because you just need to do exactly the same thing as before, just with a different level).. hence you don't have to worry about your game deteriorating in the WIP board.. if people don't like your game (style-wise) then forget about it, people think differently.. but, if it's not playable, then its a good thing to listen to what people say, and what the recommend, and if you can't do it, slap a thread on the newcomers corner about how to do it and then... well I can't think of anything to finish that sentance, but you know what I mean

P.S. just don't be like my brother.. he aims for jupiter, he says "Hmm, I have an idea, and it should be pretty simple to make... make a big city, and make people walk around in it, and you can walk around and stop and talk to the people, and you can actually hear what they're saying!" - (well, not litterarly, but you know what I mean)

P.P.S. Gameplay is more important than graphics.. if you can make the gameplay, then graphics is the easy part. You could make amazing graphics though and they all go to waste because you can't make the game.. this doesn't happen the other way around, because the game can be just as fun..

@Sage tech

Omg lol , I read your thread about medieval heroes.. no offence, but if I was there at the time I'd go crazy.. and I can't believe noone questioned you about trying to make an MMORPG when you only had the trial version

Wow, everyone flames the hell out of him, then in comes Rich to say "bla bla bla keep trying, ignore them" now everyone is on his side? Some people need to make up their mind and learn to think for themselves.

As for the DBM issue, can't say much at all as I haven't followed a thing. But what is wrong with using "GTA" in a title, doesn't mean he is going to make a clone, but maybe something that has the basic "shoot and steal" ideas in it. I could make a GTA-idea like game in a week easily, it doesn't mean its going to being professional and fun though.

Ok, bla bla bla, im done.

well then, a bit of advice, show a good amount of progress and realisticness (not a bug filled app that follows a basic story), screenshots, background info, and maybe a demo(demo isn't required) and theft free, unless its royalty free and you give credit (people will know, GogetaX tried getting away with poser models) then you shouldn't get flamed, flaming is basically a way people on the forums try to keep people from being stupid and obeying rules really, not a nice way, but works in cases.

Megaton, I will be your friend, give me a hug please.

Forums are full of all sorts of weird people, noobs, flamers, Ravens/Jimmys(ye know, people that are like Raven, couldn't think of a name to give em), indies(people who are to themselves) and just the average person who sometimes get involved, some people are more than one of them, noobs, seem weird and make stupid and annoying posts and ones that don't fit requirements, usually are the younger of the people, can be an inconvenience at times, flamers try to set them straight with flaming, as it will deter them, and sometimes work, some people disagree with the flame approach and stick up for noobs, I see why.

I think the motive behind flaming is seeing the same sort of annoying post over and over again it really annoys the hell out of them, and act out to stop it, they're not evil, just damn pissed off

I found out why it didn't run and that was because when i made the exe i pressed normal exe without attached media anyway heres the media to go with it just put it in the same directory

I might do that, I like getting funny looks from people, I walked around Herne bay on a hot summers day with an umbrella, lost count of the funny looks, got a few whilst skipping down Cambridge giggling insanely, one thing in common these two places have, everyone is too damn miserable/stuck up to have fun, ironically, my family are from the herne bay area, and we're weird, I guess its the irish on one side and the greek on the other , and the english part is our miserable side

Anyway, go on, suprise us with the movie quote, is it hmm old movie...Dambusters...(haha, funny that first old movie that comes to mind is where some of the bombs tested in the real life thing were tested at Herne Bay, awww heck, ad extra excitement, thats where some of little Britian is filmed )
