Well, I've been migrating from DB and "locally based programming" to web programming and this is one of my most recent projects.

I've noticed that ever since Jimmys site seemed to have gone under or only being available to some of the more major "developers", I saw a need.

So I've been working on a web project dubbed "CodeShare" and it's built on the premise of a free, easy to use place to store/share and talk about your projects. The signup is instant and you can login immediately to your space. You are allowed to create folders, upload files and change your information once you are logged in. The site is in "super-beta" but seems to be working far so far. My connection should hold up for now as I have 800k up and 7meg down, so everything should be fairly quick. I am working on getting an AJAX upload status bar for the larger files, and I have to up the max upload size for php, but I invite all of you to signup and reap the rewards of free online storage.

Feel free to criticize, scream "YAY!" or simply ignore this altogether.

I am working on getting a domain name, and upgrading the server. DarkBasic community oh so dear to me, your are the testing group.
So please test away.

Indeed it is, but I thought the logo looked cool. The minimalist design serves two purposes in my opinion, #1 minimalist designs are generally straightforward and easy to use and #2, it will take some of the stress off my server.

So once again, it free storage for anyone to store screenshots, programs, code, etc etc for use in the DB community. So please please give a try, signup is instant and you can start using it immediately.

I'm sorry if I haven't paid attention, but what's the filesize-limit?

Actually, there is no limit to how much you can store in your account, there is just currently a limit to how much you can upload in one time. Later today the limit will be raised and a progress bar will be placed.

If it's on a home computer, I was wondering if it would kill you if everyone started posting images for screenshots and such. Because I can see that happening if you have a metered bandwidth, and everyone is posting images here so every time someone see someone else's avatar or sig image, that just hurts you that much more...

It's on a dedicated server, yes indeed at my home, but I have plenty of unlimited beautiful bandwidth to spare. This will be a test of how well my connection holds ups. I upped the maximum upload size to 30megs, but there is no progress bar as of yet. I will be upgrading the server soon to a dedicated P4 2.4ghz, which should hold up perfectly fine.

Thanks for trying it out! I'm currently working on getting the user galleries up, so people can download your files. In order for that to happen I must implement a Public/Private file system to designate what can be seen by others.

In the little while I've screwed around with this, I have to say that I'm pretty excited. Even in its "super-beta" form it has a lot of usefulness with the file manager, and I derive some strange enjoyment from creating and deleting new folders ON THE INTERNET.

Yes, I am easily amused.

In any case, I foresee this having a lot of use in the future. Keep at it.

Using a small number of static capatcha images is a waste of time.
http://frostyle.servehttp.com/db/images/

Plus some cookies so you don't have to login all the time would be convienent.

haha, I know about the images, I just thought it would be fun and make me feel more important. The site uses sessions, which as you may know makes use of cookies. On all the browsers I've tested you don't always have to login. Hmm, I look into it.

[edit]The scope of session is only within the current browser. If you close the browser you are logged out. If you sign in, browse the rest of the net, then goto back to my site, you are still logged in and have your little control panel in your left hand corner.[/edit]

PiratSS: Thanks! I plan on sprucing up the design a little bit more, I really love the simple, minimalistic design of your site. Maybe our two services can compliment each other somehow?

Yeah, that looks pretty cool.

Whoever owns that dbspot site is such a flake. Glad there are some responsible people willing to provide a service like this.

Lol, Jimmy

AluminumPork, this is awesome. Ever since DBspot has gone down, I've been switching hosts because I have had trouble finding the right one. This looks like it is the right one

@dbmad - Did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby? I know mine dropped a large can of tomato juice on my head.

@Aluminum - This will be a good tool for many of the forum users, thanks!

BUT anyone could put their e-mail as jimmy@dbspot.com, it doesn't mean
a.it's their site
or
b.it's even their e-mail.

I'd do it now to prove my point but I can't really be bothered.

Thanks for the kind comments guys! I'm very close to having the community galleries feature working. It will allow you to create galleries to show off your work publicly. So say you want to show off your new game, simple create a gallery, name it, describe it, add files from your directories to it (screen shots, game files, maps, etc) and it will appear in a public directory that is searchable. Each gallery has a comment section attached to it for people to comment it on your work. It will also track how many downloads per file.

Should be very cool and slick. I'm also looking for visual design opinions, anything I could do without, or any ideas on things that would look nice?

Again, thanks for the comments, I love this stuff, and it gives me a fuzzy little feeling everytime someone signs up. heh

Terribly sorry about the downage, it really shouldn't have even happened. It should be up very soon, on it's new home. It's now running on Apache2/Debian on a dedicated P42.4Ghz. Things should be much quicker than before now, and you're files are all safe. Nice and backed up, so no need to worry. When the site comes back on-line, there will be some major new features that I encourage you all to try out.

Thanks! And once again very sorry!

Okay, the server is back up! And should be up for as long as I can tell. All of your accounts, directory structures etc are the same and you shouldn't notice a thing. The server is now Debian based on Apache2 on a P42.4ghz box, should be noticeably faster. Again, very sorry, this is NOT going to become a habit, I plan on running a reliable, free hosting server with excellent uptime.

By the way...
