In our state we have something called PSEO, post-secondary-enrollment-options, which mainly means that instead of going to your high-school during your junior and senior year, you can go to virtually any school(ivy leagues dont support this...) in the state for FREE. Your school distric picks up the bill for your intuition, books, ect. Then in 9th and 10th grade you can begin taking AP classes which give you college credits, which if you take enough, can allow you to skip about 3 semesters. Then all you need to do is to get a few scholar ships and BANG, its possible by the time your 18, you have a 4-year degree and didnt pay a cent for it(not counting transportaion). So then you can use the money you saved to go ahead and attend an ivy-league school for 2 years and get a masters from harvard, or go and get a PHD at the state university, or you can sit on that money and impress ur freinds that your 18 and dont have any debt, and are done with school!

where do you live, california?

i seee that you read my last post. At my school (in the good ole south YEEE HAWW!) in North Carolina, AP isnt availiable to freshmen (9th grade), but AP classes that you take merely remove 1 year from college. And this money that you say you will "sit on", isnt only money to pay for college? You will still have debt, scholarships dont go to your pocket, they go only for the college, otherwise you could make a living by just writing scholarship essays.

Good 'ol minesota boy that was actually born and raised in Indiana.

Sry, typo on my part of the 9th grade AP classes. But thru special programs and such you are able to accumalte between 3 and 3 1/2 years of college before you graduate from high school. Then with scholar ships, u only need to attend a semester in the best case scenario. But to do this you need to do PSEO, AP classes, and Scholarships.

What i meant by money you "sit on", is all that college money you and ur parents have been saving up since you were born, and any further money that you might have had to spend on college. How great would it be tho to be outta college at 18/19, and have no student loans to pay off?

I'm from Arizona, one of the nicer areas though (not Snottsdale). A friend of mine is a freshman in high school and is able to take AP because he passed several math classes ahead over the summer between 7th and 8th grade. Now he's taking Honors Pre-Calc. In theory you could get out of high school very early but you'd better be damn smart.

@BearCDP: Yes in order to accomplish this stuff, you need to be able to set aside a lot of time for your work. Another great thing about PSEO is your still able to particiapte in varsity sports, so you arent totally dis-connected from your old friends.

@silent knight: (oh no! another one of his movie quotes!) "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." GONE WITH THE WIND(1939). I really could care less if i polute the atmosphere, because unless my dream of inventing a potion that allows you to live forever, i am pretty sure i will be dead before any of these changes will affect me. And as the price thing goes, if you can afford it go ahead.

who says you made varsity sports? Also, you dont think your children will be affected by this? Im just big on saving money for gas, since it is always increasing. I came from a less than middle class family, so i dont have the wealth you do tdp

Edit: @greed
arent ap classes weighted? if you made a 4 i think you made more like a 2.5

Me, in tennis in the spring, and football in fall(JV ).

That is a good point, but just me stopping isnt gonna hhelp a whole lot, and im sure as hell not gonna go out and protest...

Not PSEO, try taking a college level AP class in your junior year...

Stay away from east/northeast minneapolis...... But yes, we do have a suprisng amount, mostly asians and russians tho, a ton of russians, like 5%...

I don't know exactly how AP is weighted, but honors works like this:

4=5
3=4
2=2
1=1

You can't get a regular B.

Btw, just checked the large or small scale thread, and holy muffins it's toasty in there.
I would just like to say for the record that we have one SUV for Boy Scouts and an econo car(48mpg w00t).

How does it make the rest of you unable to have gas? That makes absolutely no sense.

And that education idea sounds cool--- at least what I understood of it. I did something similar here, in that I did grade 11 and 12 in a University campus and when I graduated high school I had actually completed the 1st year of my 4 year degree.

Not sure how you could possibly do 4 years by the time you're 18/19--- but good luck if you can do it.

PSEO sounds like a good idea.
i took physics in my junior year, and it was friggin hard
but biology and computer science were cake.

no offense...but if you got a 3 in computer science...it may have been easy for you...but you sure didn't apply yourself (i'm assuming we are talking about teh scale where 4.0 is perfect)

That also translates to no social life whatsoever, trust me, my cousin did that, and all she did was school, school, and more school.
and my other cousin did that, but not quite as intense, but at the same time his dad had him playing the trombone, and all this other crap. So he was ALWAYS busy, no social life.
in my humble opionion, that's a major waste of your highschool years, yeah, it saves you a lot of money, but you're only a teenager once, and you might as well be a teenager while you can.
After highschool, people go to college and get married and get in a career. So your whole life from there on out (not saying this is a bad thing but...) is working/school and taking care of children. hardly any play time.

Depends on your priorities. Myself I'm glad I got the head start, and I met my wife in University. Sure, going to a weird school may have affected my social life in Grade 11 and 12, but really, high school doesn't matter in the whole realm of life. It's just a small part. I still met a few new friends who I still hang out with today.

In my humble opinion, except for marching band my highschool years are a major waste of my life. Of course I'm still in highschool, so that's a typical opinion. The best friends I have in high school I met in junior high, and most of the new friends I meet aren't all that close, and the ones that try and get super friendly can get somewhat annoying or you just end up forming a dysjunct relationship that will fall apart once you graduate. That's not a hundred percent certain of course, one of my friend's mom and dad were high school sweet hearts, and my uncle stalked my aunt in high school. Besides, if I were to do that I wouldn't do the full load, just a semester's worth or so, and then you get a little more chill time. I'm going to be taking AP next year, and I know people that take AP and still have lots of free time.

ummm, okay, i'll say this again, i live in freakin minnesota. thats pretty high up on the U.S. map, and we are famous for 3 things, our 14,000 lakes, all of our road contruction, and our winters. Only the main roads are plowed in the winter, and even on the rare occasion they decide to plow all of it, its ussually many hours after it began snowing...So unless you want risk your life so you can kiss mother earths a$$, thas your risk. But i'd prefer to drive safely down the freeways in my 4x4 and laugh at the poor ppl who thought their pontiac could make it to work... Our state is also know for the notorious fact that we dont have snow days, if they have to, they will asign a plow to each school bus so the can make it to and from school safely.

If Prius' are front wheel drive (which they most likely are), I don't see the problem with driving it in the snow. I used to take my old '89 Corolla through each winter here--- I even did my road test in the snow and as long as you use your head, you won't get in trouble.

The worst is the black ice, however. There are many roads that you can't drive, even if you have +5 driving skills, if they're covered with black ice. It's funny watching people try and crash, though

that stuff sucks, cuz they only spray and salt the highways and the main roads, not the ones i use

My parents have an Audi TT and a Ford Expidition, and suprisgnly, the TT handls better in a couple inches of snow then Ford does, but if we get anythng worse than a few inches(which is more than likely), the TT doesnt have much ground clearance...So thats what the ford is for.

@Jeku: How much snow are talking about, cuz the morning after a snowstorm here, there r only 2 places you can find small cars, in the garage, or in the ditch.

TDP said he had a humvee in the game design theory board under the thread "which is better large scale or large scale?" started by dared. so the thread went off topic and i suggested we continue it here, so TDP took the honor of starting it up.

Since everybody is comparing cars, we have a Mercedes E class estate which is silver.

On to more important matters... do the cars in America still 'bong'? The past few years we've been it's driven me crazy:

Open car door

bong.... bong.... bong....

Turn key

bong bong bong bong bong

Close door

booooong...... booooong...... booooooong.....

Anybody else know what I mean? Drives you nuts!

Yeah, I hate that too! My parent's minivan does that. Mine only beeps at me when the driver doesn't wear the seat belt, but other than that it never makes a peep. Which is nice

Although my dashboard prints "Hello" when you first start the car. So Japanesey

it does make that irritation sound but only under 2 conditions

1: If the driver door is open and the key is in the ignition but the car isnt on.
2: When you start the car reguardless of door position (less rapid beeping and fades out after 3 seconds)

It doesnt beep when you close the door, thats when it stops.
