Okay just out of curiousity can you run more then one operating system on one computer and then switch back and forth. If so how?

Cheers

Yes, you need a boot loader. Not sure how you'll get MacOS and Windows on the same machine though.

MacOS runs on PPC Processors (found oddly enough in Apple Macintosh computers)
Windows runs on x86-Based Processors (found in any high-street store)

You'll have to emulate the crap out of Mac to get it to run on Windows (Bochs).

I use GRUB to boot Windows and Linux.

You can install MacOSX86 on a PC and dual-boot with Windows XP, and I would assume linux as well. Go searching for MaxOSX86, you'll find plenty of tutorials and torrents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_loader

Most modern Linux based operating systems come with a boot loader that automatically installs (and detects Windows if you have it installed).

Some of the easier distros are: Fedora Core, SuSE, Mandriva and Ubuntu.

Yes, you can do that. It's what most people who use Linux do, especially if they are a 'gamer'.

Just be careful, if you plan to install Linux onto the same HDD as Windows, make sure there is enough free space. Some Linux installers have the ability to resize Windows partitions, but offer no guarantees! (i.e: BACKUP!).

which is ILLEGAL, and pointless if you do happen to get the rare one which is real. As MacOSX86 doesn't run anything except the test programs.

Yes you can get all three on a system....

1. Get a Mac with a big hard drive
2. Buy windows XP and Linux
3. Partition your hard drive in 3 (can you partition to 3, i dunno or have 3 hard drives)
4. One part install Linux, one leave as mac the other as windows.

My brothers been doing this sort of thing with his i-book, once he had mac and linux, the other time he had mac and windows

I should forget trying to run mac os on a pc since it isn`t that useful atm, as for Linux, either download a live cd, or download Suse Linux, imo that is the simplest to use and most complete Linux, the others being limited in some way, download 9.2 rather than 9.3 since 9.3 is problematic atm, defragment your windows drive before you start and then set your BIOS to boot from the CD drive if it does not already, then just insert the cd, reboot and accept the default installation, it will take some space off windows and install the bootloader and linux to this space, then you can try it out, if you then want to remove it you will need your windows install disk, otherwise you will be stuck with the bootloader, so make sure that is available before you start.

if you don't want to mess about with your partitions - which can go seriously wrong - you could always by vmware workstation, or if you are broke, virtual pc as they both allow you to run multiple operating systems on a pc with out having to reboot your computer

i'm not sure if you can get macos runing on an x86 as the dev machines at apple aren't normal x86 comps - they are modified so that to get it working it on a proper x86 it would take a lot of hacking to do it

Don't try and install multiple versions of Windows on the same PC, XP will eventually kill the other version. They say it doesn't, but no matter what method I use, it always happens! I have run Linux Fedora core 3 & XP on the same hdd just partitionned before though and its worked fine.

Um am I missing something here, can you run Windows XP on a MAC ?!?!?

You can run Windows XP Embedded on a Macintosh.
Currently the free version supports G4 Mac (and oddly GameCube)

Don't expect to run any software that's not specifically written for it though.
