I went to see Guy Richie's new film yesterday, and I don't have a clue what the critics were on about. The film was excellent, certainly a lot better than all the big name Hollywood crap that's churned out every year. Admittedly I didn't completely get it, and it takes a bit of thinking to get an idea of what is going on, but where's the fun if the story can be summarised in a paragraph?
I guess the main thing you're left wondering is "Who is Mr Gold?". After watching the ending my take is that he is a metaphor for the con man, the one who everyone wants to think they are, but aren't. I'm probably not getting the whole picture, and I still didn't really get the ending scene where Jake argued with himself in the lift, and Dorothy (wtf?) ends up shooting himself. Both of them seem to have a split personality, and I'm wondering if the person they're both meant to be arguing with is Sam Gold? And what is their final confrontation meant to represent exactly?
What are everyone else's views on this film (whether about the film itself or the story)?
