its not steam, its breaking the water apart into hydrogen and oxygen and using the explosive power of hydrogen to fuel the engine. just think everytime you drink water, your really drinking two explosive gasses mixed together
a ram file is streaming video for realplayer

Just think, every time you put salt on your food, you're really putting a poisinous gas and explosive substance on your food.

Water's already in low supply (at least here it is), the last thing we need is people running their cars on them.

i thought that too, but it can be made from seawater after a small amount of filtration to remove biological material

Desalination is a complex and exspensive process. The fuel would cost a lot to make.

nope, you need the salt in the water , or not salt, just some electrolyte so no desalination just removal of biological materials to ensure that it does not build up in the tank

I may not be good in school, may not hae had a girl for a while, ma not had a social life in years, BUT I"M STILL THE ONLY ONE IN SCHOOL WHO KNOWS HOW TO MAKE GAMES!!!

i have some mechanical skill but probably not enough to implement the diagram, but if you google, run my car on water, there are diagrams with units and other such stuff.
I love things like this, hovercrafts and fuel cells, but i mainly posted this because i think it fits into the realm of 'geek cultre'

I don't see how the salt can be doing the engine very good, it'd be more likely to corrode the metal, you'd need a new one within months. I live in Australia.

it dont burn the water, it extracts the hydrogen from it and burns that, so it won`t hurt your engine beyond the combustion process gives some nitric acid as a byproduct of the high temperature/high pressure combustion, you need to swap to useing stainless exaust valves to reduce the wear to normal levels.

the main problem is the magic metal compund formulae you put into the water to get the hydrogen is a mix of metals and catalysts that costs much more than petrol for the same amount of power, plus once you have used it you have to then convert it back into the original metals with an extra expenditure of energy again, so its actualy expensive and uses more energy to work than petrol, it makes more sense to grow, harvest and ferment sugar crops and then burn the alchohol in the engines as they did with VW`s in Brazil.

When I first saw the topic I thought:

"Meh... God's been doing that for years!"

(Rich, no religion related antics intended!)

Really though, I wouldn't mind running my car on water. Go down to the lake, and fish from the car window !

@ me! suprisingly the price of this 'mystery metal'( which i intend to find out what it is) has come down significantly, but while ethanol may be a better idea, it would be better used in a fuel cell, because burning it is as inefficient as burning petrol.

also if you know what this metal is, please tell me so that i can make full use of my 3 day weekend!

lithium aluminum hydride is the main one I know of (but I think other hydrides will work), some need a catalyst like platinum to provide a decent gas release.

Looks like some dodgy science to me. If it worked why would they be messing about with car engines in a garage? If you could get energy from water wouldn't you just build a powerstation by the sea and watch the money roll in?

@the winch
it takes a lot of money to make a power plant and thats a pretty much locked industry anyway, just like munitions compainies, even if you had the money you cant just walk into that buisness.
also the technology isnt perfect yet, a normal engine is succeptible to a type of corrosion from being exposed to hydrogen for a prolonged period of time, must be stainless steel for it not to be affected.

the metallic salt or whatever isn`t cheap as they claim, it`s a simple matter of energy balance we all learnt in chemistry (or I hope we did), to liberate the hydrogen takes x amount of energy, to balance the equation, recovering the used "cheap" additive from the water after use so that you can go again needs x+y amount of energy, the amount of energy you get out needs more energy than it gives to create it, and you have to create this additive unless you happen to know where vast deposits of a metalic salt that turns water to hydrogen are lay about (this is naturaly gonna be a part of the world where it never rains )

claims that this is cheap or free energy are up there alongside perpetual motion machines and antigravity, and the claim that nobody could afford to build a powerplant are unfounded, if the major producers could reduce their fuel bill by just 5% they would be installing gas burners jetted for hydrogen at every boiler in every powerplant they had, remember that powerplants already use huge amounts of water for cooling, a bit of that waste water to fuel the boilers isn`t gonna cost them anything compared to the billions pa in oil/coal/gas/plutonium they currently use, their profits would soar off the top of the stock market.
