Has anyone had any experience with Tiscali?

Were currently thinking of swopping to there 2mb for £18 service.

Does anyone use them, has anyone heard anything about them, are they good/bad/awful?

Thanks for any help!

(I have googled this but ive seen mixed reviews...)

Dunno. But what about http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/? I paid for parent's broadband with these guys, and they were pretty good. Their top deal (8mbit with *no* limits) works out currently to about £24.50 a month (2 months free). Not bad.

Cheers

Crap. Well, the dialup part is. Buggy dialer, connection failing. Oh and its very hard to unsubcribe from.

Bulldog are huge now. Very decent company, and supply most (if not all now) of the UK. They were the ones who got 4mbit first of all in London I believe. Take it from me, very reasonable company, and my parents never reported the link going down.

And it's 8mbit dude.... (even if wired up wirelessly between say 4 of you, thats still 2mbit each, even if your all downloading at the same time! - assuming the servers aren't dying of course)

Cheers

One.Tel are awful - loads of hidden charges - I got a huuuge bill from them cos I didn't read the fine print!

Tascali dial-up is appalling - years ago I used them and it would never let me connect and allways kick me off after a few minutes if it did connect! - don't know about the broadband service - I'd imagine its better - it does seem one of the cheaper ones

Yeah, sometimes when I connect, I instantly disconnect. Infact I would say about 25% of the time I connect and can't transfer any data at all, and have to reconnect. Piece of bird poop.

Plus.Net - I wanted to go for a cheaper ISP (this one is cheaper with more things).

I would look on the Plus.Net forums before you even think about them - whilst I haven't had problems with them, there is quite a lot of problems regarding their services.

NTL. Mainly because I've had the same email address for donkeys years now. And to be fair they are a lot better than they used to be (if you sneakly avoid the Indian call centre).

Heh, I was just looking up Cyprus internet, because my parents just moved there, and basically I want to pay for their internet again. Their old Bulldog one was about £20 a month, and that got you 2mbit (now 8mbit). I've found on ripoff.com (and we whinge in the UK) that I can get 256k for them for about £10GBP a month. And then another £10GBP for the ISP (don't get it with it, just the connection). And then about £7 for the phone line. So £27 for 256k. Coff. And you cannot get better than 1mbit (add another £6). Grief.... Annoying that I promised.... still, luckily I have a job and no more alcohol dependancy depleting my wallet Hurrah. Then again, my car is costing more than a small country to run.... grrrr....

I´m on arsys. No one has ever heard of them as they mostly do hosting. I was lucky enough to get their 30€ offer before they uped the price. no idea if they are in EnglandbutI´ve had no probs. There service started off slow though and they change over to 512 last year made the service slower rather than faster but since then they´ve got a hell of a lot faster and the recent increasew to 1 meg was painless with only 10 mins of internet lost and a 320kbits upload speed. Their technical support runs rings around their competition (not that is saying much, most monkeys could do a better job). The other good thing about them is that they offer their service to everyone and not just certai areas. Esential in my case as I live in a vilage.

My signature has been erased by me because it's LARGE.
Thank you for the votez!1!

I feel like seeing out this decade without breathing apparatus. Plus I don't like the cold, or find bikes remotely nice to look at.

I have Tiscali. It works fast, and doesn't crash on Broadband. I have the £14.99 service, but you are limited to 4Gig Download. 4Gig not bad, but not unlimited. Maybe the £18 sevice is unlimited?

All of the UK ISP's are 'upping' their bandwidth by huge margins. For example, a typical 2mb Blueyonder customer will get put onto 8mb for the same price - everyone will follow suit and really it might be worth going with the biggest guys in order to get the best deals.

Avoid BT, BT is the devil, BT is British Microsoft, BT eat's chewing gum off the street.

We use BT at work to supply our 1/2mb broadband, which BTW costs us about £75/Month, oooooh gotta love the BT!. I fondly remember the time that they banned our anytime prepay no-restrictions ISDN connection for using too much bandwidth.

I use pipex and I quite love them. Never-ever had more than one problem with them, a year ago when half their network went down but it lasted like a day and a half then it was streight back up with tons of apologies and nver had another problem since - been with them for several years now.

Dont know if they are the cheapest or fastest, but for good service and realibility i would recommend them happily. We did have 30kbps upload speed while all the other isps were doing 15

That's all very well, but if you monitor the main review sites and mags (which I did quite a lot a few years ago or so) and they tend to differ wildly from one week to the next. I remember reading an article about how great this top company was and how many awards it had been given, only to find it like 20 positions lower in their league table 2 months later (after I had subscribed to it, and was then having annoying problems with them).

Personally I would buy on recommendations from people who use the net a lot in *your* area. I mean, for example, if you look at NTL's main hate site (nthellworld.co.uk now, as NTL bought and ditched the .com version), then a lot of people have *loads* of problems all over, but everyone I know in *my* area has been really great for the last year or so (before it was rubbish). This is especially so if it is a big company, as they seem to have totally different "companies" running each area in whatever manner they seem fit. Another example was O2. A friend of mine uses O2 in Southhampton. She threatens to cancel and they give her 6 months free, and a half price handset. I do the same for O2 in Reading, and they give me an offer that works out more expensive than O2's own site. Then they cancelled me when I rejected it. Erm.

Cheers

Hmm, Im thinking of going for Tesco (Yes thats right ive changed my mind 3 times LOL)

Because most people in my area use it with no problems... The only problem is that they wont take a Mac key even though we have one (They say the connection would be disconnected for about a week).

Anyway thanks for all the help.

Hmmm. I do my motor insurance with them, and they screw me to the wall less than anyone else. Sorry, can't be positive about motor insurance companies...
