In my head I've compared this forum to others, and found people are too, well tense, dudes, lighten up, you're not here to piss each other off...unfortunately, I've seen people round school who sit in the ICT room playing games talk to each other, and compared it to TGC and found too many similarities. Some people will know who I am talking about, but I've seen other forums with strict rules open their arms widely to new people that make stupid posts, but I don't think the rules are as strict as made out to be, I look at the mods take on these 'bad' posts, then look at the members, I know I have made the odd lash out, but the thing that makes them strict is the members, I know there shouldn't be these bad posts, but leave the mods to get angry at them, because thats when its necessary, but we can still tell them what they're doing wrong.

Finally

Dudes lighten up, we're no stuck up are we? I won't give quotes or examples because it wouldn't be fair on the 'flamer' and plus that would mean actually doing schtuff

Dude, this is practically chilled compared to 2001/2002. Flame wars used to keep people all toasty around here.

And Raven hasn't had a decent flame war probably in over 6 months. C'mon mate, I've been dying to use that "That's so Raven" image capture from that advert on miniclip

Cheers

but is still tense with a few people, I guess this is an improvement to what it was before, but i still imagine the weirdos sitting in the ICT room at lunch getting worked up instead of having fresh air outside at lunch...theres a term people have used for those people, and is the first word in the new name of this board .

But seriously, the 'Computer geeks' I've seen are really worked up, which is why I compare people from this forum to them. I have nothing wrong with geeks, know many decent ones, theres just those who get super worked up about small things and are tense when talking to them, which I feel the same with some poeple on here...thus I am implying they are that kind of geek

You can be geeky about anything. A nerd is tied to computers and games.

Anyway, what this forum needs is more ads for viagra. I am running out of viagra.

@Seppuku arts - They even had a thread that was only about flaming each other!
A geek is someone who knows alot about something and is obsessed with it and a nerd is someone who acts weird. At least that is what I think about them...

Is that supposed to mean anything?
Or did a green bunny simply crap in your mouth?

Funny, how some of those "nerds who act wierd" are in Harvard and Princeton right now...

@TDP Enterprises - It is the other way around.
Here are the things that the dictionary says:
geek - a person often of an intellectual bent who is disapproved of
nerd - an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits

@Megaton Cat - NO FLAMING!!! ISN'T THAT WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT!!! At least I am cool enough to have a unique avatar! I meant that a nerd is like a geek, only they act weird.

i agree. I see too many people getting mad at noobs and putting them down. Many come in here with the attitude that they're going to make an awesome MMORPG, and of course thats ridiculous, but then people dont just calmly explain why they need a reality check, and why its near impossible to make an MMORPG, especially for a noob, in DBP. Also, people seem to be using noob as a degrading term. Whats wrong with being a noob? Everyone was a noob once, and the "veterans" here seem to think that they have somehow done something to get a higher power over noobs. It's not the fact that they tell them they cant do it, its how they tell them they cant do it. Even when noobs dont make stupid posts, people dont seem to be very welcoming to them, where as in the other forums i go to, they even have sections where you can introduce yourself and say hi, and people welcome you, even if they see your new they might even post just to say welcome. Even when someone isnt a noob, and makes a post about something someone, namely Raven and Megaton Cat, disagree with, or isnt what they would have done, they flame it. Some people in these forums just need to lighten up, remember they were a noob once, and overall get along better with eachother.

Quote: "I flame people with good reason."

You flame people because they are noobs who make a stupid post, which is not a good reason, because they dont know how things work around here, or what it takes to make a game, or because you disagree or would have done something than someone, which also not a good reason, because we all have our own likes/dislikes, and opinions, and they may not be the same as yours. Take for example this post:
Quote: "You're still a noob at life."

not exactly a flame, but a degrading comment, and why?...
Quote: "I joined a long time ago, but I didn't start posting and stuff until 2 weeks ago."

can you explain to me why you that post needs to be retorted to?

i'm gonna admit it here, and to the following ppl, you damn well better not mistake this for ass-kissing: I think jimmy, megaton cat, raven, and a fww other selected so-called "flamers" have very valid points 90% of the time, they are the ones that really keep this forum from getting too newbish

They may have valid points, but its how they convey these "valid points" that makes them stand out. They do it rudely and in a derogatory way. Making someone feel unwelcome and flaming them is less effective than calmly explaining something to them, in keeping this forum from getting to "newbish". And besides, once again, you use the word "noob" or in this case "newbish" as if its something bad.

No, you two just basing on stereotypes because you don't have enough experiance in life to tell things how they are. Geek and nerd are just slang terms some guy made up to poke fun at his friend's D&D addiction. Stop taking things so seriously. Read the thread title it says

ok, i like things simple, and to the point, more or less effiecient , and in many cases on this forum, the most effiecient way to get stupid ideas outta many "less-experienced" forum dwelers, is to bluntly pound it into their heads as fast as you can before the thread is locked.

I disagree with your statement,
I know you dont have the years of history thats crawled over this forum.
You are still able tho to have an opinion, however i think you didnt plan your thoughts well enough.

in other forums, the majority of the time a mod would just ban/delete you and anything that they didnt like.

People DO actually help each other here, just take a look at the areas and the discussion happening.

Dont take one small sample of this forum (General/Geek) and not factor in the rest of the forum.

Name 3 people who have helped you, or name 3 people who would always help you if they could.

I bet its pretty easy to even name 5 - 8 people who can help and do regulary.

I reckon thats enough humble pie

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

Why is something like:
Quote: "Stupid noob! Your an idiot, you really think you can make a MMORPG! Like that'll ever happen. Dont make a stupid post, you idiot, your making my post sink! NOOB!"
(BTW, thats edited as to what a more realistic one would be, as in cursing)
more efficient than this:

Then maybe try some more advanced 3D, modding current games and engines. Making a game is much more complicated than many people think . Theres modelling, programming, sounds, music, textures, animating, etc. You also have to realize that you need to keep the framerate at a decent level, for the game to be playable, which takes planning, and is harder to do with larger maps/levels/worlds. Email me at whatever@whatever.com if you have questions or want help, ill be glad to help ."

Video games…they take you places unreachable, unfeasible. Putting you in the book...putting you in the movie...putting you in a world, that before could only be imagined. expage.com/piratesmainpage.

Because people get to a point where they spent tears and sweat stickying the same god damn threads, re-directing to the same god damn rules page, when no body ever, ever, bloody reads them.

Then you screw it all and take the virtual chainsaw to their reproduction organs. I don't blame any who did it.

heres a perfect example of what i mean by people who disagree with someone flame and freak out in their posts. Thats not true, its usually the other way around, the noobs get their feelings hurt, get mad back, and then flamewars start. Unless the noob is a jerk, he wont get mad at you for explaining why thats not possible.

so why not just let someone do that, then lock the thread? Some people out there will post like that, including me, if i see a newb.

It isn't that simple as calmly explaining it to them. Most of these people are young people (notice how I didn't say "friggin 10-year-olds"?) who just played the latest UbeR-hAx0r MMORPG and snapped up a copy of DBP, skipped all limp-dick tutorials, and went right to bothering the forums.

Been done, done, done, done. What have they been doing for as long as anyone can remember? What else is there left to do? We just live with it.
