Here's another movie with the enemies actually animated in game. Right now they just do the shoot damage when they get close. I'll get rid of that later. I think they turned out pretty good.

Great video.

It's nice to see someone making progress with there own stuff.

Just to confirm, you used fragmotion to get them in the game, right?

Looks great Lon

Duncan Edwards is the one person who, even today, I really felt inferior to. I've never known anybody so gifted and strong and powerful with the presence that he had - Sir Bobby Charlton

Thanks!

Actually I used Milkshape to skin, bone and animate the character. I exported as DirectX JT.

They will jab punch at you. I have to figure out how to get the damage to occur when their arm is completely extended. I'm going to modify them a bit more. Id like their hair and arms to flop a bit more when they hop. I already have the death (knockdown) animation in as well, but I need to make it with more frames so it doesn't happen so fast. They do this little staggering death sequence and fall down like a peice of cardboard. I plan on using an alternate skin showing a grimacing eye squinting pain on thier faces as well. I want the player to see this.

That's great! And looks much more natural than the old vertex-based animations that you had. Also Milkshape is a very good choice.
I love your work. My queston is: Will all of the sprite characters be animated 3d models now? I would like to see Jasper move!
I remember playing the demo for the first time and I just JUMPED when I heard "He's right over here! Son of a %$*&!" And seen them jumping my way! Truly horrifying!

Lon you could try the home script and change it a bit
like when the enemy is in "hit" animation and if you are close to him/her/it you get hurt!

soon I will make the most biggest game in the world!
Just need to make my skills in coding better...

@Anatoly Yes all the sprite enemies will be modeled and animated. Since this is a sequal there's going to be lots of new content, but Jasper might be in there somewhere

@MR elevetor Thanks for the info, I've been messing around with the scripting and it's surprisingly simple once it clicks.

I guess, if Lon doesn't mind I'll post the link to an old demo - just because everybody is so excited about this new project.
Warning ahead of time - because of the engine (Pie3D GCS) used to make it the demo might be tough to run on modern systems (I've managed)!

I saw something like this in a book called: "Awsome Game Creation: No Programming required." It was in the section about the Pie in the Sky Game Creation System. Lon... did you make that?

Thanks for the good words everyone, I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully this sequel will turn out even better than the regular Pencil Whipped.

One of my challenges is mastering the use of scripts and zones along with special animated objects and audio to work together to create some choreographed moments within the game. These consist of nasty traps and also consequences that occur somewhere down the line if you do or don't complete specific things earlier or later.

I'm also tossing around the idea of using some story zones for instant death type moments. I model everything in Animation Master, so all my game models can be used to make movies in that software. I can reconstruct a scene similar to part of my level and make a movie of an event that will play. Lets say theres this fire in the middle of a room and you simply think you can walk through it or maybe you get too close. The story zone will play a movie in 3rd person of you burning to a crisp flopping around. You would then re-start from a save point. etc.
