(Pro that is) is there such a thing?, I am currently not a happy bunny, the default editor has this nasty trick I just discovered of overwriting your source code in the projects folder if you open another dba to take a look at it, I am not best pleased, my last backup was up to date as of yesterday, but the program I looked at was a finished project that was not on the backup list since my recent re-install and the source has now been totaly lost, it was a critical part of my current project , I should have added the new folder to the backup task or kept the transfer files on the external drive from the re-install, but I wanted the space, anyway, I don`t want to be working inside a editor that eats your code for no good reason, I struggled to find Blue IDE cos it isn`t listed/linked on Robs website (I found it anyway ), but that won`t run, it seems to have a missing dll, I am not going to muck about with IDE`s that don`t work properly, I just lost several weeks work thanks to one, so what IDE`s are out there that actualy work and are completed?, or do I have to resort to notepad?, there is nothing that will convince me to use the default IDE again, thats for sure.

Load your .DBA into notepad and look for a chunk of garbage - the IDE will load the code before the garbage but not after, so deleting the garbage will bring back your source. In theory at least - this has saved my skin in the past.

However if you can't find an alternate IDE here, then you are beyond help. Posting this in the DBPro discussion section would have been nice too, c'mon it's not rocket science.

ummm! its not DB Pro Language discussion, it`s a DB Pro IDE discussion, plus I am asking for recommends from someone who may know of one or configured one of these open scource editors for DB and be willing to share the syntax highlighting files, I know there are several IDE`s out there but most of them are unfinished or bugged, I was just wondering if there was a finished, stable, IDE.

Did you happen to update to the newest beta? Here's a quote from Ian in another thread.

Quote: "For both the .DBA and .DBPro files type, the 'open' action is not set correctly, meaning that the IDE is started without loading the code when these files are double-clicked.

They are both currently set to this:
Crogram FilesDark Basic SoftwareDark Basic ProfessionalLaunch.exe

They should be set to this:
"Crogram FilesDark Basic SoftwareDark Basic ProfessionalLaunch.exe" "%1""

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=62706&b=15

If you right click on your source file and then click on open with you will see two darkbasic openers, click on dbpro.

Ohh my...

Your saying 'Geek Culture' is the appropriate area to post about DBPro IDE's and not 'DarkBASIC Professional Discussion'?

Don't argue with a Scotsman who knows he's right!

we could be on a hiding to nowhere then my family is Scotch and their name is seen on a certain brand of (excellent) whiskey

I wasn`t interested in just DB ide`s but any other editors out there too that would do the job, even just finding out how to highlight the syntax in one of them would be good, more people read Geek culture, and talking about the merits of IDE`s is geeky, so there!

There were others that are no longer supported, Twilight for example.

Isn't Johnny doing an IDE or something ?

But I can move your post into the 'correct' section anytime I want - so nah!

Like the 3D Canvas forum where nobody would ever find it, it'd sit there on it's own sobbing while you hunt the forum looking for it.

Anyhoo, IDE's are boring - we want exciting and fascinating stuff to talk about here, like the merits of Whiskey and why drinking a whole bottle on your own is a bad idea. IF your names really on a whiskey bottle, then you should send one to me as proof, about 40 proof should do it .

if you know your whisky then Glenfiddich should tell you my surname (thats the good stuff..we do something cheaper for the English with my name on it), I never knew drinking a whole bottle was a bad idea though, never seems to have done me any harm, must be genetic, if you come from a family that makes the stuff then your immune

Mmmmmm, Glenfiddich is one of the few whiskey's I drink neat, usually I drink Whiskey and Coke, but Glenfiddich is a sipping whiskey .

Drinking a whole bottle is bad for me because it usually get's me in trouble, nowadays I'm less rambunctious though.

Eeek! Barbarian! No wonder Hadrian decided to build his wall.

And I'm not even a Scot. Much less scotch.

Whiskey and coke is the only way to go! - try it, but only with cheap whiskey, 12yo whiskey and coke would be barbarianism. I can't stand whiskey and soda, or water, or lemonade - but Glenfiddich tastes different to other whiskeys.

Like Famous Grouse is quite sweet and sickly IMO, Glenfiddich is spicy, like it's got ginger in it or something, so it tastes nice when you just add ice and sip it.

well..some cheap whisky is about on a par with polystrippa, it realy needs dilution, but the good stuff is so smooth it just glides down and converts you to pure bliss on the way, no harm ever came from a good scotch , I cured the glitch with blue BTW, missing VB dll, just got it from MS and replaced the one on my system, interestingly I have VB.net installed and that wasn`t good enough, better check that .net is up to date, I swear it did a update when I re-installed it.

Damn right. If you need to put something in your Whisky your drinking the wrong stuff.
[edit] on a side note if your ever heading down Campbeltown way (unlikely probs) there is a hotel just after bellochantuy think it was called the hunting lodge. He has the biggest collection of Whisky I have ever seen. the bar is very small but every crevice and corner contains Whisky and the barman/owner is a serious drinker.

On the subject of IDE's I take it you updated to the last IDE patch?

There is also DarkRider's. I hunted up the link for it:

http://www.levelmaker3d.co.uk/ide.asp

It was quite advanced, though I have no idea whether it is integrated with 5.8 or not.
