I have a DI-624 D-Link 802.11g (108mbs) wireless router. I have had it for a few months, maybe 6 or so but no more than that.

When I first got it, we were having problems with our 2.4ghz phone forcing the router to reboot. Since then we replaced all of our phones with 5.8ghz phones. And that solved a LOT of our problems with rebooting.

Lately, our router has been rebooting constantly, it seems to reboot about 10 times in a row, about 1-3 minutes apart, then stop for an hour or two and do it again.

I ignored it at first. but now it's starting to get on my nerves. I listen to my music across the network now, so whenever it happens, I lose my network mount, I get disconnected from all messenger applications, get disconnected from any online game. so you can probably assume how annoying this is.

anyone have ANY idea why it's doing this? I really like this router because of it's fast speeds (all my wireless cards are Dlink, so it connects faster , 2x faster even, really nice). I already found myself with a faulty Linksys router and went for Dlink because of it's awesome ratings, now it seems to be failing me

I have to stay wireless so don't say any crap like "plug in", I have one Desktop on the other side of the house using this, and we have several laptops in the house that are constantly using this from random locations in the house. I really really really really really really CAN'T buy a new router no money, and my dad bought the last two (and 2 5.8ghz phones, and several network cards, etc), so no chance getting him to buy another $50 peice of equipment.

So I'm posting here hoping you guys have an idea of what's going on

[edit]
errg, just updated the firmware, we'll see what happens...but it cleared ALL my settings and I had tweaked a lot...but it'll be so worth it if it works

I'm having a similar problem. Although it seems to reboot more when I have tons of connections established. There have been several times that there wasn't many connections going and it rebooted, so it's really hard to say why it's doing that.

My internet runs at 8mbps and I believe it shouldn't do this, but I've kind of gotten used to it a little bit.

P.S. I think this needs moved to the proper forum...

I have the same model and exactly the same problem. Only happens on the cable connection though, not the wireless one.

My MSN contacts wonder what the hell is going on when it happens

I was going to suggest updating the firmware, but you said you did that, so we'll see if that was it. The same thing started happening to my Linksys after a firmware update a while back. I had no choice but to down-grade the firmware back to make the router behave.

My router has never has a problem (although my parent's Netgear effort was constantly going down), but I found a lot of things conflicted. Such as at one point I had 3 laptops. 2 with 11Mbit, and 1 with 54mbits. I could *never* get it so all 3 worked (plus my wireless PDA at 11mbit). Didn't matter how many settings I mucked around with. Either the 11mbits didn't work, or the 54mbit didn't. Turned out to be my TV extender effort (you know, wirelessly beams a signal through the house). Ditched that and all was fine. ie. any conflicting signals? Intrestingly I could put a laptop next to the router and it would work perfectly. Go upstairs and still had a connection no worries. Then when turned off, then on again, then only going *right* next to the damn router would get a connection again. Grrr.

Cheers

woh, where'd i put it? I thought it was in geek culture? it is now, did someone move it?

anyway, I've thought about what else would be conflicting. The only thing I can think of it a neighbor's phone, my friend's over the fence can get connected to my router from their house, and their neighbors have a 2.4ghz phone and disconnects THEIR router at times.
but their phone wouldn't get this far and my router wouldn't hit them I don't think.

Maybe it's conflicting with a neighbor's router or something? I don't think it would, but I know I have at least 3 neighbors with wireless routers...

I'll sit around and see if it causes anymore problemos with the firmware update

wow, I can't believe I did that , It was late

anyway, it turns out the firmware update made it 10x worse! holy freaking cow it was bad, and it took longer to get back on too :/

so I rolled back, and turned off all the Dlink special booster stuff, because when I read:
Quote: " i think i changed the setting on something and it made it constantly reboot"

I thought, hrm...maybe that's the problem, and so after 10 minutes of frequent shutdowns, I haven't had one yet... so MAYBE we'll be in luck today

but that means my wireless connection speeds drop from 108 to 54mbps, and I tend to transfer a lot of files from my wireless computer to this computer.. OH WELL!
If I still have a problem, i'm going to start complaining to their tech support...

You don't to live in South Wales by any chance?

Just the one laptop. I don't live in South Wales - but it wouldn't mater if I did I have hidden SSID and a pretty robust WEP encryption key .

(Before we get into it yes that security won't stop a team of russian hackers it will stop my neighbours using my network without permission)

Um, it seems you have this misguided impression that south wales is like super hacker land or something. Heh, nah, I meant living across the road from your auntie. Both of my parents families come from south wales, and you can't move for relatives popping up in one street or other.
