This is the best darkbasic game I've seen so far. I'm not sure how it plays, but it looks outstanding!

Peter_ > though it's hard to tell if the water looks good or not, because we only have a static screenshot

You got it... that's the true difficulty I'm going to work on that today...

Sven B > It does have some serious fire power right?

Abusive power...

zzz > Are there going to be a multiplayer mode?

I don't think so. I won't have time enough for that and I've never experienced multiplayer code so far. I'll study that for my 3rd game!

---- day 23 ----

I asked a couple of advices to a very talented friend of mine for the mech. I hope it's now almost ready...

"my 3rd game!" didn't you say you used to program back in the day, I liked the first idea with the ship flying accross the land instead of the mech, maybe you've just been viewing it too long to appreciate it fully . Anywho the mech looks good aswell

*Asks for favour* put in an option to work either ship or mech?

Shame on me but my english is too poor to understand this question!

You're true; so in a couple of weeks I'll be bored with the mech... And I'll put your option to select either the ship or mech

your game looks great, i really like the effect you gave the water. But one question...Is the game like star fox, ala. you have a group of ships and you fight the enemy, while flying on rails, then fight a boss? I was trying to make that for the Caiman easter contest but you totally blew me away, its like my game *100, because of the insane modelling skills.

Keep up the good work (you should definatly enter Caimans contest, you will win a prize for sure)

During my school days, I remember getting a question on 'terrible'.

It was during a listening test based on interviews with French teenagers. They were talking about a football team, and one said "ils sont vachement terribles". I got the translation wrong "Terrible" can mean "cool", in the same way "bad" used to mean "cool" in 90s America.

Oh yeah, keep up the stunning work, Cage Complex.

Back home... with a serious gastroenteritis ... Argh '

To close the discuss... I don't want to release this game for a contest. I always win contests, there is no interest for me

Sephnroth > Hammer psychology. I know, I know... But I haven't keep my mixing scripts for those songs, so I have to completely remix tracks before releasing lyrics-free musics. I'll do that at the very end of this project. It means you'll probably write two dozen requests before I'll send you a ZIP archive with this!

Zzz > Yes other planets are still here. This game will probably feature 3 levels per planet. But I don't know how many planets.

The ratio between pics and comments on this thread is now badly low... I have to work harder on this game...

that looks really beautiful Are the trees in these screenshots and the videos flat plains with pictures or real objects? Either way they look really cool

Only issue I've noticed is that from some angles your moons/suns ar not round, I assume its a skybox/sphere issue - you could fix that by not having a moon/sun on the sky but make it a separate plain and face it to the camera? This works perfectly for objects that should be spherical in real life

You're doing a really good job can't wait to play this game

Thank's dudes!

Kangaroo2 > Trees are 2D plains for speed reasons (I'm still under 6,000 visibles poly) but they are oriented so that doesn't looks too fake. Concerning the sun... I know it s*x... I'm not using a skybox but layered plains so the sun is already a plain. The issue comes from an excessive FOV >100° and I don't know how to fix that...

Now Day 24...

Added small lens flares for the sun and started water crashes/ripples... (still to improve)

Playground almost ready, I'll soon be back to the gaming itself, so I just need a couple of days to release a demo. Bad news is that I don't know when I'll find those needed free days...

"Trees are 2D plains for speed reasons"
Yes I thought so from the videos - that wasn't a criticism at all I think they look fantasic

"I'm still under 6,000 visibles poly"
Thats excellent! I love low poly stuff tha looks good there's such an art too it, too many people around here say "I fink you need to add some more poligons to make your graphiks bettre"

"Concerning the sun... I know it s*x..."
I didn't say that, it looks nice Just squashed, but its a nicely drawn graphic

"I'm not using a skybox but layered plains so the sun is already a plain."
Wow thats an interesting technique, you're doing a rally good job with it - I'm impressed!

"The issue comes from an excessive FOV >100° and I don't know how to fix that..."
Ahh yes that would do it. The only solution I can think would be to use dbps vertex manipulation commands to stretch and warp it depending on the angle to the camera - but that would be pretty heavy code and don't worry about it it the least important thing to update

Screenshots rte looking fantasic, I love the water effects

Under 6000 visible polys? For me, it's impossible to do that ^_^
Quote: "Trees are 2D plains for speed reasons"

It looks more like high poly trees... They are beautiful!

I have an idea, you should make a feature that let you choose quality, so you can do a anti-aliased verion

Wow.

Every time I see this game my heart skips a beat. Your visual spacing intelligence so to speak, must be off the charts to have such an amazing looking game the can run with such low requirements. You programming skills must be... yep. I can only imagine how your next game could possibly top it... (an rpg, me thinks?)

Kangaroo > I do love kiwi !!!!

JaRsE > "HOW YOU CAN DO THAT" There is nothing complex in this game. That's almost hints, cheats, and design

Skalex > "so you can do a anti-aliased version". That sounds good... maybe I'll put a little extra fx for heavy gfx cards/cpu?

Bizar Guy > that's really a lot of congratulations... Anyway my next game will be a RTS but I won't say more about this project

Xenocythe > you can try to catch me on "mainspawn" with AIM but faster way with me is always email

Nothing really new... I'll go on next week...

Sorry if I sounded a bit too exited, as I normally don't go so googoly eyed over graphics. It's just that I'm something of an artist myself, and the visuals are so well done and well placed. It's one of the few games where just looking at the screens is fun in and of itself. Also, you’ve managed some of the best camera movements I've ever seen, not to mention that you've successfully tackled realism with an incredibly low poly count, and... Well the game really seems to inject you with adrenaline from the screens and vids.

I was working to release my very first program - PONG - in my own language... I LOVE IT

But that's neither the right thread, nor the right forum for that

I'll be very soon back on HyperNova... I'm in late in this project so I'm gonna stop further enhancements and work now for a demo (ASAP!)
