As i am posting this message, Doom (The Movie) will be released just this very hour. How do i know? I am watching a count-down of the release on some website http://pc.ign.com/articles/619/619565p1.html
They say that this movie ROCKS as the Rock is featured in it. I hope its as good as they say.

I think ROCKS Stands for...

Really
Ostentatiously
Coldly
Killing
Stupidness

(that could be a bad thing or not depending on your movie tastes)

The rock seems to be more effective on comedy movies. like "Be Cool" for example. he was good at that. but on other action movies, its like, more exagurations than expected.

i've heard that doom the movie does not take place on mars. neither is it an experiement that goes wrong. neither are there any monsters.

i've heard it will just be a resident evil clone with another name.

is this true?

edit,
just watched this and that answers my questions. lol

The trailer looks really awful. I'm definitely waiting the 2-3 years until this comes out on terrestrial TV.

Man alive! - Doom is gonna suck, let's be realistic, they've gone OTT. All that was required in the Doom movie was 1 leading dude vs monsters and some extras - what is the deal with the Aliens style swat team!. They should have let that Karl dude be the main character, this is not the sort of movie the Rock should be doing.

It'll probably be a bit like Land of the Dead - a freakin massive dissapointment - Doom looks to have the same toasted nappy smell. I appreciate the new Dawn movie more now.

At least Serenity was quite good, surprised by that actually.

Apparently there's an entire scene from the FPS point-of-view. That sounds cool--- gimmicky, but cool.

Well, letsee here...

the whole squad thing will ruin it for any fans of the game,
and the fps view scene will kill it for everyone else,
and the lack of genuinely scarey moments will kill it for everybody.

Though it has Dywane in it so it must be pretty bad. It doesn´t have the acting abilityfr anything non comic. Then again nor did Arny.

My signature has been erased by me because it's LARGE.

EH??

The Rock is awesome. The movie is going to suck almost as bad as the game and there's nothing The R-r-r-r-r-r-OCK can do about it, except get paid. He'll be the highlight of the movie. Fo SHO.

I disagree with Jeku, I think the idea of an FPS view is stupid. Trying to capture the essence of the game is one thing, but using the POV? Stupidest idea I've ever heard. I saw the clip of it, it looks terrible. It's supposed to be a movie, not a re-creation of the game coreographed (<spelling?) in Fraps with Doom 3! Dwayne is not cut out for action movies, he doesn't play the part well - I agree with VanB. According to IGN, the movie has paper thin character development and it's all mindless action. The simple idea of the accident on Mars isn't even relevant to the games; none of it makes sense. I have no idea how it scored 3/5 on IGN FilmForce.

...and there's no fun in watching someone else play a game, as everybody knows. Except the producers, of course

Saw it tonight, it sucked...

No hell, no LONE marine; but atleast they had mars and UAC.

The first person part was actually pretty cool... (it was a 5 minute section of the movie, towards the end), but the movie needed more then special effects and good 3d models to save it.

well...
i actually liked the movie. kinda slow in some parts but pretty cool over all.

There was this religous type squad member and he got attacked and died.
When he became a demon he still realized what was happening and he did the cross symbol(cant think of correct name atm.) and ran into the wall and bashed his head until he killed himself.

he was all bloody.
lots of gore everywhere
psyhcotic people

fun.

the First person section of the movie was very shakey. but cool mirror effects and hand movement.
They also tried to add comedy into this part by making the monsters he was shooting at start to run away.
Stupid.

I thought it was okay. I was disappointed that they removed all occult references. The juxtaposition of science fiction and demonic themes was what made the game really scary. I was expecting the walls to start bleeding, and demonic voices to start whispering, but not a pentagram was to be seen.

I thought doom 3 on xbox was scary for the whispers. When I first encountered it on my darned crap speakers, I had to listen very hard to hear the scary whispers. It was better for the xbox on my 38". those whispers were scary, cause I thought they were coming from the demons at first

So the general opinion was that Doom sucked?
No surprise there. Video Games and Books are the #1 and #2 worst things to make a movie out of. What Video Games need is an LOTR of their own, something to break the curse, so to speak. Hmmm, I wonder...

I thought the movie was particularly boring. There's not much more I can say. I really didn't care whether or not the demons got to Earth or not. Might've made the movie a lot more interesting.

The first person scene was pretty cool I will admit though.

According to the BBC, the DOOM film has topped the US Box Office at $15.4 million.

Fans will be fans...

My brother saw it last week, he says it's pretty cool. Not that I trust his taste in movies anyway. And he hasn't played Doom either - the only FPS games he's ever touched are CS, Quake3, and Serious Sam.

IMO games x novels x movies shouldn't really touch each other if all the producers care about is milking the cash out of an existing fanbase. They just ruin the purpose and spirit of it. I don't want Doom to be associated with a mediocre movie that had little to do with the game.

that reminds me of the arguement I had with this guy who insisted LOTR had ripped off the whole plot of Star Wars , he refused to admit LOTR had existed prior to Star Wars...after all LOTR had just come out, Star Wars had been going since the 1970`s..right?

Errr? And Errrr? Even without the great stupid mistake of *time*, what comparisons was he making exactly? Oooh, there is a bit of a war. Hmmm, a young hero. Ah, a DeathStar.... ermmmmm.... Were you visiting the crazy farm at the time or something?

What's the big deal? It's not like the Doom games had intricate storylines with character depth and plot twists. It was generic as it gets (aside from Tetris and Pacman storylines).

Halo will be a bigger deal to the fans. IMO there is no way the Halo movie will come close to the fans' expectations.

umm!, his argument went... bit of a war intrudes on peaceful farmer like existance, emperor saurons sidekick/s comes after him, obe wan gandalf helps out with words of wizardom, gets killed by sauronic sidekick, luke baggins goes NOOOO!, runs away, gets help from princess and han strider, meanwhile bad guys building barrad deathstar, etc..., there are simularities, actualy George Lucas did a lot of research into the basic Mythological "journey" legend, some of that was based on the same stories that Tolkien based Lord of the Rings on and some was actualy based on LOTR it`s self, if you listen to the commentary on the disk sets (esp bonus disk in set with eps 4,5,6) he says as much, so it was more the other way around to what my mate thought (and he never read a book in his life unless forced..books is stupid , he assumed LOTR was a modern script plagarised from Starwars I couldn`t convince him otherwise until I brought the book into work and pointed out the original publication date).
