Hi, I'm cleaning up my computer to get more space, and I see two folders in the C drive, tmp, and Temp. I'm not sure witch one is the real temporary folder.
It is ok to delete from the temporary files folder?

It would make most sense to take a look at the files inside first, then based on that you can delete it if need be.

Area 51 TGDN,

In Windows XP, the intitial temporary folder is named TEMP. However, this can easily be changed to any folder you wish it to be, via cmd.exe, using the set tmp=[path] command.

The real folder can be located in WinXP by;

right-click on 'my computer' and click properties. If you don't have that icon on desktop, go into control panel and use 'system'.

Once there, click on 'Advanced' tab and then click 'Environment variables'. It will show you locations to TEMP folder for user and for the system.

I myself, always change these to a temp folder on my D drive so I don't fill up my C drive.

It is more than likely TEMP is the proper one. TMP you will probably find is just a rogue program that decided it wanted it's own folder and to disregard proper one.

Boo!

So is it okay to delete all the things in that folder?
Thank you, TGDN.

no its not you have to sprinkle those files around your hard drive especially in your system folder. of course it is there temp files.
unless you have installed something in temp ( god knows why) but i have seen it done

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 

I would never install something in my temp drive! That would be stupid.. I re installed my OS and don't need this to be answered anymore, so you can lock this.
