@Gamedev: Yeah, thanks, i know your on the team, I'm just recruiting more
.
@David R: Thanks
. Well, an outline of the engines...
Crafting-(copied from game design section of PoPR forums, and BTW, this is not a high priority engine yet)
Quote: "I was thinking something more realistic, such as anyone can craft anything anywhere, but you have skill points, such as "Blacksmith" and stuff that increases, allowing you to craft things from that category. I think there should be many other crafting professions such as: Tailor, Craftsman, Carpenter, Weaponsmith, Gardener, etc., each with their own things to craft. You would get skill points in each of these skills depending on which thing you craft. Also, i dont think there should be such thing as a "failed craft", but instead low quality, with low stats. Yes, and i say there should be a lot more resources than that, in fact, i have a list here...
We would have strong, weak, and normal stat for each resource.

Now crafting could work like this. Heres an example:
You want to craft a lantern. This would be blacksmith and/or craftsman. So what do you need for a lantern? Glass, Metal, Wax, and Wicker. So, you get the glass by buying it or making it using sand, limestone, and graphite (not really the ingredients, but simplified). So you could go to the store, or you could walk to the beach, pick up some sand, or buy it (idk why you would, lol), and same with limestone and graphite. Then combine them, making glass. Now you have your glass for it. For metal you would gather the needed metal, lets say 50 units for a medium lantern, then go to a crafting thing and select medium lantern. It would then craft the metal into that shape, so you would have the empty metal lantern. So then you get wax. How, i have no idea, i guess buy it, lol, then wicker, which you could buy or i guess horse hair might work. So then you melt the wax or carve it into the candle shape, using the same method as the metal. Then combine the metal, glass, wax and wicker, making the lantern. You would also need tools for the steps, such as a fire, and a hammer to bend the metal.
"
Combat-Real time, first and third person, much like Morrowind, but guns are available.
Quest-You recieve profession related as well as side quests. Like i said, at the beginning of the game your friend asks you what you want to do, then within each of the professions, there are sort of quests, really just jobs related to the career. Take soldier for example, youd have to report for training, scout an island, protect a new settlement, etc. Then there'd be side quests given by NPC's like go buy this necklace for me, or even things like, kidnap this person for me.
Any other engines you were thinking of?
@Lukas: yup, your right about why this post is here, obviously. Yeah, if you mean the more technical aspect of it, David R, thats right

Video games…they take you places unreachable, unfeasible. Putting you in the book...putting you in the movie...putting you in a world, that before could only be imagined. expage.com/piratesmainpage.
