Every month I get a magazine called 'Custom PC' which I really enjoy reading. This month they had a feature about a PC built into the case of a Mega-CD (the CD addon to the Mega Drive). It wasn't amazingly speced:

• VIA EPIA 5000 Motherboard
• SEGA MEGA-CD
• Slimline DVD-ROM
• 40GB Laptop Hard Disk
• 60W PSU Kit
• Slimline CD Adapter
• 2.5" to 3.5" IDE Adapter Cable
• 256MB Memory
• Netgear 11Mbps Wireless USB
• USB Cable Adapter
• Fedora Core 2

But the effect of the machine was asweme. I'd really like to get a PC like this, not nessacarily inside a Mega-CD (as it doesn't really have any sentimental value for me - I didn't even know they existed until recently) but some other odd case but I can't really build one myself. I don't have the skill or the time.

I was wondering if there is any where you can buy PCs like this?

(just to make it plain...I am not offering...just pointing out potential problems)

I could build stuff like that, used to build fancy cases for a living when I was working (amongst other things), the problem would be threefold as far as me making one for you though..

1..who would trust someone off a forum who just says "I can do that!" to do a realy good professional job?

2..who pays for all the parts before you actualy get it?

3... would you pay the bill for my time and effort when you got it and could I be realy sure you would?.

thats seriously custom work, forgeting the cost of the parts, just think of the time it would take to rework something like that to get everything in and working perfectly (the one shown on the site is not the best workmanship I ever saw), full time it could take a week or more to do it properly, thats like you paying me my wages (£350pw) for a week or two, plus the time waiting for the right parts, and enough of a profit so that if something arrived knackerd and they wouldn`t replace it I could afford to replace it myself out of my own pocket etc, plus I would need insurance to cover the warranty and any liabilities like a short circuit burning down your house or something else unexpected, I have been looking at working for myself since I am out of work atm but it`s a total minefield out there, it`s risky from all angles to get someone else to do it, both for them and for you, your best bet is to do it yourself, just don`t get over-ambitious for a first attempt.

I think most of the custom PCs you see, like the mini ITX ones, are hand built. I'e never seen anywhere offering pre built ones.

I must agree with Megaton Cat. But if you want a PC like that I think the only way is to buy the parts and build it yourself. There are plenty of toturials on google that show you how to build your own PC really quick. Besides this way I guess the only way would be to take it to a local computer shop and see if they could do it but then like Megaton said it wouldn't really be that custom.

That's true, perhaps I should've asked how I could get an 'odd' PC.
