Hi,

Most of you may know that I have been working on X-Ball, which is currently on hold because Daniel's computer (Daniel's the other team member) is broken and he wont get a new one till Christmas..

This game that I'm working on is a ompetition entry for www.retroremakes.com..

It is an FPS game, kinda like Halo, and is coming along well..

Plot -

October 3005:

Aliens have invaded (very original ) and people are being sent out to stop them doing anything... you are but a simple guy named Shunt, you don't get a very important role.. you are just out in the country where no aliens are supposed to have landed, you're just there incase one or two aliens pass by.. This is, people don't know that the aliens are dropping off everywhere in sequence, and have also landed where you are.. It is your job to kill 'em!

Screenshots:

I've spent most of my time on the AI which I'm pretty proud of, because I've never made such good wandering or running away from the player.. it's cool, so I'm thinking that after I win the compo (lol) I will release the source code and people can work it out, but don't bother asking me questions about it, ask other people, I'm already doing enough givin' ya all teh codez

I will upload a demo later, depending on how excited you are

Note: Ok, I DID use music by Yngwie Malmsteen, who I beleive that anyone who knows him would know he's an arogant b*stard but this song is cool.. besides, think about it, this game is Halo like, and the guys from Halo used Steve Vai for alot of the music, and Yngwie is good friends with Steve, so it kinda works out

P.S. Ok, I feel I'm missing something on this thread, I might not be, but if I am don't moan, atleast I have the feeling.. which is good enough

*Looks at watch of which I don't have* You have like.. 24 days.. this only took me about 2 weeks, so 24 days should get you pretty far...

@everyone who doesn't know about the compo

It's a competition to make a game, here are the prizes:
1st Place: XBOX 360
2nd Place: PSP
3rd Place: Nintendo DS

Rules are here: [href]www.retroremakes.com[/href]

Even though it says "Retro", this year it's just any game you want, though it must be made specificaly for this compo..

It finishes on the 23rd of November...

Looks good but here are a few things that stand out to me..
- Trees look way out of place...maybe it's the black line around their edge?
- This might not be fixable, but you are so close to the ground that the texture looks ugly
- When looking at that mountain you can easily see the repeating texture

i like the overall look (choice of colors for the sky, landscape, gun, and enemies), i just think textures could use a little bit more detail...(except for the gun which is awesome )

That's a bit uncalled for

@Zotoaster; Looks very good, but I reckon the 'night sky' needs a bit of de-cluttering (star wise). Google for another skybox I reckon - one with fewer stars (that way it looks more realistic)

Its not our fault that you're always making comments that it doesnt look good when you can't even make your own games looks good and when its only being made by one person. So lo siento.

Anyways any new updates?

Ok, time to answer all of these lol

@DBMad, Nah, I like my controls, besides, I don't think arrow key controls are good for an fps

@Animeblood

I used sphere mapping, and some specular commands.. I just use then to show off

@Peter_

All of these are pretty kuch temporary.. the trees and the textures I copied just to use for while I was mkaing it (well, I didn't copy the tree models, just the texture )

@GogetaX

Or I could just not scale it as much so it's not as cramped

@Xeno

Good idea, everyone stop fighting, I'ma upload a demo now

@Zotoaster:

I think it's a great demo Too bad this thread is being wasted by discussions
Well, i will give you some feedback of the game now :

First of all i noticed that even if you don't hit any buttons, the player will move very slow. Maybe this is because of collision problems?

Also i found it very irretating to be spawned away from the aliens all the time. It wasn't so much the spawning thing, it was more that it's pretty hard to get up to the enemys again, they are always running away and are pretty quick too. They only attack when you're close to them. So it's pretty time comsuming to get close to them.

I liked the gun movements! The way it move when you turn Also you should put some kind of "turning limit" because if you turn too much the gun will rotate too much. Also i think that the shooting sound should be louder.

But i enjoyed killing the aliens! And i think that this game can be pretty fun!

i don't know if the game will be only about running around in that level or if there's going to be more levels like a storyline(Wich i hope!) It was also too easy. Try to make it harder I myself think it's hard to make a game hard But try anyway!

I know that the demo was kinda early, so keep working on you'll going to have a great and fun game!

I hope that this feedback was any help.

Probally posted at the same time

Good demo, didn't notice any sound effects, gun movement was quite good, but it swings a bit much when you turn too quickly. Collision was good, no bugs. Couldn't find any aliens, but the mothership thing looks cool Oh, and the skybox is a bit bland...

I'm unable to try the demo at the moment, but did you change anything with the skybox?

My earlier suggestion in case you missed it

@The Nerd

Sorry lol, posted at the same time...

@Hawkeye

Hmm, maybe the gun is a bit sesitive.. oh and yeah, if you turn straight away so you see behind you as soon as you start you will notice all the aliens maybe I should make it start like that..

[edit]

@The nerd, all that you said i all being tweaked just now

As for the moving, that's just sliding down hills, notice if you go up a very steep mountain you will slide right down.. can't seem to find a good way to fix this, but maybe just chacking the angle would sorta help

@David R

The skybox, well I haven't had much time for that, though I will get it done soon

Man, that was so completely and utterly awesome...

It fitted with the music beautifully, the sphere mapping was 1337, and the terrain was cool.. the alien spaceship was an excellent touch

My (not mentioned yet(?)) only complain would be the lack of strafing; i.e., the 'A' and 'D' buttons...
