basically has anyone got any good ideas about how i can create a world map forest which the character can run through but you can still see him, Final fantasy style. or on the other hand has anyone got any good idea about how i can make a world map more interesting without changing the matrix?

I'm working on adding in object ghosting and camera collision samples to the function I made it'll be up tonight, basically it'll show you how to ghost objects that go infront of the camera and zoom the camera in towards the player if the camera collides with anything above, behind or beside it.

Here's the link to the function:

i was more thinking how i can make it so on the terrain the forest is all ways 4 units above it (so the forest would have to shape like the terrain) but the idea of ghost on collision is a good one. i'll look at that code

You might look into doing something about the z sorting, so it always gets drawn infront of everything else.

Or you could just copy the terrain, move it up and have the areas without forest textured black/transparent (quite messy I'd imagine).

Or you could place a scrolling plane over the player when they're on forest land to make it look like they're under the forest.

Of those, the zsorting might be the easiest. *shrugs*
