UPDATED 27-DEC-2005:
My freeware fangame Double Dragon Forever is almost done, and the Windows XP compatibility problems are history now. The latest public beta is available for download.
What I need from the community is testing. I want to make this thing work. Please, I need you guys to download my beta, run it and tell me how it goes. Does it run? Are the graphics messed up? If it crashes please give me the log file and your system specs.

Please click the link bellow to download (~8 Mb).

Hmm... Not sure what could be up. Be careful on your models and code you use. Some may not work on all systems, let's say if a really high detailed particle won't run on a junk graphics card. That might be a problem. Hope I helped.

Sure that's not the problem. The game is entirely 2D.

Glad it works.
Well, alt-tabbing really messes things up when running full screen. But that's DBPRO's fault. If you run windowed or desktop you can alt-tab.

Sounds like the problems I had with dark fighter. Some graphics cards aparently don´t support non square multiples of 2 textures (64x64,128x128,256x256). So they just crash when loading images. Someone had this problem and updated his drivers to make it compatible but that´s the only solution I´ve found.

My signature has been erased by me because it's LARGE.
Thank you for the votez!1!

Works fine for me. Played it until got to top right and then no more baddies appeared and no level advance 'go' icon appeared.

Great game!

Boo!

Are you launching the game from a shortcut when you install on other PC's? Because you need to make sure you set the working directory. Otherwise DBP apps tend to really screw up quite badly.

This beta has this working directory issue. But in my current WIP, the program automatically changes the working directory to its location.

My users are complaining the game doesn't run after DBPRO 5.9. Can you please test this new version?

I am one of the people that can't seem to get this application to work. If I remember correctly it does work on my workstation pc at work, but not any of my home computers (which are newer machines). When I ran this demo after configurations it just starts and then exits silently.

5.9 is not worth it, downgrade to 5.8 until TGC fixes the weird problems (If EVER)

Assuming all the files in ddf_bulld are present, the running the main program doesn't work here - starts the program and crashes out straight away.

Do we have to setup keyboard controls and what-not ?

I'm using ATI X700 Mobile. Tried it on an X700 standard and that does the same thing.

It looks like its reading in data, but possbly not checking to make sure its valid.

I would start writing information to a debug file - that way you can find out where the initial crashes are.

I've tried. It seems the program crashes before the first line of code.

That would be a DirectX initialisation problem.

Does the program run in FSEX or Window mode ? Is the initial screen resolution set to something strange like 800x800 ?

Might be worth checking the .DBPRO file to make sure its still okay.

Yes, but you can set the screen resolution - only whether its Windows or not and 16/32 bit mode.

Its possible that resolution isn't liked, although that resolution should be fine.

Its not set for 24-bit mode is it ?

No, it's 16-bit or 32-bit. But I don't think the resolution is the problem. If 320x240 is not supported, DBPRO will get other display mode and expand the image to fit. Also, it should run fine on windowed mode.

Indeed - which does leave the DirectX initisation as the cause.

First off, can we see the .DBPRO file ?
Are any graphics added to the executable ?

If nothing can be found there, it might be worth letting Mike know...

There's other possibility: the plugins...
No media is attached to the EXE. The .DBPRO is here. I can't post the .DBA because it's closed source.

The other possibility is the change of the application window title - I had thought that had been fixed though...

It may be worthing trying to compile it with 640x480 or 800x600 as the initial resolution.

I also see it starts of as hidden - again, whilst it shouln't make any difference, try window.

On your machines, do you compile as EXE and not stand-alone ?

Quote: "I can't post the .DBA because it's closed source."

Shame, but there we go...

I have tried compiling stand-alone, normal, and small exe with pck, but the effect is the same. I'll try messing up with the settings in the .DBPRO.

It would be very helpful if a power user with a system the game doesn't work on could run this application http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html and tell me where exactly it breaks.

Also it would be nice if people who downloaded the demo told me if it works or not. Please guys.

Heres my log file - it does appear that the PCK file may be the problem...

It does seem to reset the working path back to C:\ for some reason...

The problem seems to be in the new beta of MultiJoy plugin... I'll have to borrow a XP to do some tests.

The previous version used the old windows API. With this new beta version I'm trying to use directinput, but sadly Windows XP and Windows 98 have different behaviour. I could make it work as EXE in a Windows XP machine, but when I try to use it as a DLL it crashes.
