Only 2GB of RAM ? Bit low, isn't it ?
You want at least 4GB to remove the need for the swap file.

EDIT: sorry, it was just a shock to see the huge effort you had gone through making the detailed list. Actually quite an impressive feat.

It'd be cool if he actually put a system together, rather than a system and a bunch of other crap just to hike up the price.

Some components do seem rather unnecessary:

Although, nothing can detract from the thouroughness of the list.

He just added everything he could.

I could go to walmart.com and make a system and my system would come with the house and all the furnishings. It would be the best computer ever. I could sit in it and make hot cocoa in it and sleep in it. Wow, I think I will put it together right now!

and with

she could be standing against the wall right next to you, or so it appears.

Then again, if you wear this

he should have no problems getting a real wife.

Where's darkbasic is that list of yours? I'm sure if someone was paying $17,259 on a hyped up typewriter Alienware wouldn't mind adding it to the site just for them. Other than that, I know bugger all about what makes up a computer so I'll just say. Sheep.

you could do a lot better investing in a mac or an SGI product for that price.

well i make $200-$400 an hour for Post Production Video using a mac with final cut pro HD, since the average finishing studio is around $1000 an hour im cutting a lot of studios since my prices are low, due to less overheads.

you could have the latest G5 with 8 gigs of ram inclduing a HDTV ready camera for what your waisting your money on. including twin 20+ inch monitors.

Chris - you scream at the word Mac yet I wonder if you have EVER used one?! They're ridiculously great and lovely machines. The only reason I use my PC so much still is the lack of software/games. Although I have office and dreamweaver for it, I haven't found a decent text editor I like (like UltraEdit for Windows), games like Live For Speed, Steam, etc, etc.... Mac has the potential and just needs the backup I think.

Pft, now Dual dual core cpus no care. Also, it should have crossfire x1800XT and 4Gig DDR2 ram.(2gig for each cpu), RAID 0 4x400Gig hd is also good.

DuDe, I use Macs ALL the time, and the only thing theyre good at is graphical shizzle. And Avid Xpres Pro HD runs fine on windows, AND I'm going to get that fat HD TV. Although, I might just get a Dell XPS 600 with the top equipment, and a REALY good HD camera.

2GB of ram? I had 1.5GB in my system over 2 years ago. Today, you should have like 8GB!

regardless, you dont buy a system like that, its a dead end waist of money, if you were to spend that amount of cash you rent it.

Its more of a tax deduction and if you get the right rentsmart package you can upgrade for free as newer systems come out.

Unless your guaranteed to pay half of it back with the first couple of jobs your a fool to spend into the technology as it will be obselete in 18 months.

$1000 a month for something thats half the speed in about 2 years is foolish to invest in.

you could buy an SGI or MAC for the same price and get double the mount you paid for it renting the machine alone to a studio, sure you wont be able to use it but you will double your money in return.
