Sony come across as serious hypocrites, seeing that they make the minidisk and all , now they are mucking around with a system that could force you to re-install windows to get the use of your CD drive back if you try to remove their dumb inferior music quality player, and it doesn`t even work on Mac/Linux, how dumb can you get?, how long till this gets hacked? guesses.

roflmao...hooo! thats rich!, I can see the headlines now "Sony help hackers to defeat windows security", "Sony simplifies hacking of Windows PC`s", "Sony managment arrested for hacking 265400000 pc`s", I love it , it just gets "better" (checks CD collection ).

in fact reading that again, they seem to have done something monumentaly dumb, as far as I can tell they have made it so that anyone who played a Sony CD on their PC can be hacked by any EXE that starts with the protection softwares "$sys$" prefix, it can`t be seen by any AV or anything, thats realy...realy...realy DUMB .

(I notice Philips (who developd the CD standard) are refusing to allow Sony to call their "CD`s" "Compact Disk" because they breach the standard, so they shouldn`t have the CD logo on the cases/artwork, they realy are killing themselves for the sake of nothing here, bad decisions all through the company imo)

Open up Notepad, right some crap in the document. Save it in c:windowssystem32 (c:winntsystem32, Win2k+NT users) with a filename of something like $sys$_rofl_sonysux0r.txt.

Anybody notice it disappear when you go browsing for it? (Just checking whether El Reg's theory is correct, but I haven't bought any recent Sony CDs )

(Btw, TheRegister is my homepage, so I've already read that article ^_^).

I don`t have any Sony media either or I would have tested it before posting, but it does sound like they made a bit of a ...er..mistake, it must say something about the label and the class of music they put out that I don`t even have one CD, mind you I only have a hundred or so CD`s and a lot of those are classical, most of my listening is streamed off the net or podcasts nowadays.

ongoing...an update on the Sony anti-piracy foul up.

http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8307

seems like it`s just as was thought, some guys already released a virus that can use Sonys anti-copy stupidity to infect peoples PC`s and take control, so if you ever played any Sony disks on your PC....well.....you might want to check you`re still secure.

Did anyone hear what Sony's defense statement was?

ROFLMAO! well, nobody who matters, just hackers, and users, and kids, and games players, most of the inhabitants of a small planet in the unfashionable end of the galaxy and a small tribe in darkest Amazonia, apart from that NOBODY at Sony knows what it is .

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 
