I was driving down the street with my mom and sister, and I decided to just snap a few pictures out the window.

We WERE going 35mph, so I had it on a faster shutter speed. so it's a tiny bit dark.

(1296x972)

it's the end of my street, one of the few remaining fields in my area stupid developments, I give that one another 5 years max before it's all houses.

anyway, tell me what you think

Oh? You'll be the most exciting thing to happen to SLC since the olympic games!

But, be warned, the closest thing we have to a pub is the food mart at 7-11/

Nice picture.

There's a thang called the "Rule of Thirds". The idea is that the focus of interest should lie on the imaginary points that make up the thirds of the picture. So the cloud that looks like a plume of smoke coming out of the mountains is there by chance . It's worth bearing in mind, it really does make a difference to your pictures.

not being a killjoy but the camera is on the slosh, its tricky if you are in a car to get things level and unblurred, but you could rotate it in a photoediting suit to make it better and add just a touch of sharpen, then go to the colour settings and check you have used all the colour range available in the image, if you havent then tweak the colour, makes a world of difference, even if you overdo the colour a bit in real terms it still looks natural because thats the impression it gives in real life, a sunset for example allways feels more intense than a photo of it does, tweaking the colour gets some of that lost effect back as long as you don`t overdo it .

@Me: I think you overdid the photoediting a little... It looks artificial in your one.

Yup, my camera has a thirds overlay grid on the LCD!

What's this thirds thing? I didn't understand it from the previous explanation.

succesive components of an image take a third of the remaining scene, its taken from the golden ratio, the idealised composition/ratio tool used by artists, lots of classical art is based on similar principles, look up golden ratio.

@Nicholas Thompson: you think so?, it looks ok to me, I didn`t do any sharpen, basicaly all I did was level it up a bit and increase the contrast and enhance the colour a bit cos I thought it looked a bit washed out with the high shutter speed reducing the exposure range, also digital cameras tend to shrink the tonal range a bit (hardware limitation), I think it doesn`t hurt to put it back where it should be, I could have played around with it more but you get to a point where you just make things worse.

@Torrey: your ufo is too dark for the light/haze, plus in close up you can see the join, you need to touch it up by hand to merge it with the image better.

I actually did level it, I posted the wrong one, heh

I did tweak with the lighting a bit, but I didn't think it was worth the tweaking.

and I did know a little bit about the rule of thirds, as my camera you can have it show the little thingy like Rich's does, but I was moving, so I just snapped the picture But thanks for the advice guys I'll take into account.

I'm going to go back over there in the winter and take a picture of it with snow and stuff. and if it clears up any time soon, i'll take another picture, but it's been really cloudy, can't see the mountains anymore .

I am visiting my friend who is working at the snowbird skiing company. I'm not a skier, so going to spend some time going on trips, and looking at the nice countryside. I'm also going to NYC to see what's going on, should be really nice near christmas.

Heh, coincidentally I watched Orgazmo last night (same person who does South Park) and everytime they asked him or his bird where they came from they would say Utah. To which everyone then said "Sorry".

Interestingly they say the same thing here about where I come from. And we have a view of the mountains too. And not much else.... some sheep I suppose.....

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Add one more person to your Utah list, Joel. I spend most of my time around the good old "School down south", as it seems known in SLC.
