Hello all

I'm considering buying DarkBASIC Pro.

A little background on me. I'm a programmer. I've been working in industry (first COBOL then Unix, C, Java and a bit of Perl) for 15 years.

I want to write computer games. Mostly for my family's use but I'm certainly open to selling them.

Will the docs that come with DarkBASIC Pro and the tutorials/advice available on the forums be enough for me to get started? Is the book "Beginner's Guide to DarkBASIC Game Programming" a must have?

I'm interested in your experience and advice.

Thanks

Mark

It should be but if you have programmed in C++ or java then darkbasic might be a bit basic but it is still good to learn and the tutorials in the software are worth using and forum should be ok but there's a new book on dbpro coming out soon anyway try the demo the try then work from that i did

no - i own a copy and it's more like an introduction to dbc with a bit of dbpro taged on at the end, it's not that good a book, and to be honest if you've been working in the industry for 15 years it should be a dodly - spend the money on getting blue gui instead, money much better spent

The language DarkBASIC uses is kind of secondary. C++ or Java would be great but language isn't why I need a gaming tool. What makes DarkBASIC Pro attractive is it appears to handle graphic creation, animation and marrying graphics and code. Since I'm no artist, that's where I really need help.

All good to know. Sounds like I should be ok with the online docs, tutorials and asking questions on this forum. If I can't get things sorted out that way, then there's the upcoming dbpro book.

I've downloaded the demo and at first glance the tutorial seems to be about programming in BASIC. From the website's comparison between db and dbpro, it seems like dbpro has 3d graphic/art capabilities not found in db.

What would going thru the tutorial do for me other than refresh what I've forgotten about BASIC?

I don't understand what "blue gui" is. Can you please explain?

Thanks
