Perhaps the question should have been, can you read it? Lol

We can't read it.

And 53kb for a 50x50 image is much too big. Should be 1-10kb.

Ten points for David, that's what it says.

It is not an image, but an animated gif with 118 frames...

It took me so much longer to load than it should have done. Death to huge images.

Which is ironic, since I'm short-sighted and wear glasses

Best change it then, because it's barly noticable and not worth the large filesize.

After staring at it for ages I finally see that it 'rotates' a bit from left to right. At first I could just see a dot appearing and dissapearing.

Takes forever to load from that wandadoo.es webspace. Still haven't seen it all yet! Just hit the Stop button and quit it.

[Edit: Seemed to change just as I posted ]

Yeah, too late, it is not animated anymore! Now it is a 8kb bmp, more readable, and faster downloading...

Bad news that wanadoo speed...

At least we can see yours... Rich - have you played with the avatar code recently? Since you've been playing with the look and feel of the site, I've noticed people's avatars (including my own) tend to not display, like right now MikeP's is MIA. I often notice some of the Mod's ones are missing too.. :-(

Rich.. Could you maybe do it so the PHP code tries to check the avatar and if it doesn't exist, replace it with a slightly nicer image? Alternatively, have you seen [href=www.deviantart.com]www.deviantart.com[/href]? Their images have a background so if the image doesn't load, you dont get left with a blank hole... Just an idea

Haven't touched the avatar code for years.

MikePs doesn't display, because it doesn't exist. Try viewing it directly:

http://provoking.co.uk/5362.jpg

I get a 404.

Some of the mod avs are the same! (Exeat, indi) for the same reason.

Yours appears fine. But then your web host is up

My avatar is linking to my old server which no longer exists, too slack to change it, hence you get the pretty red x.

A lot of people put their Avatars on DBspot, which was a lottery at the best of times.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself 
