I want to make a game similar to 'Project Entropia' with DBPro, after having evaluated for 4 months if this was possible. As far as i can see by now, a serious MMORPG team may have good success in this task.

In this thread I like to check out how many people would be interested to partecipate actively at a professional and commercial game.

There are many key persons needed, ranging from developer, designers, animators, analysts, public relations, and and and...

Personally, I am a developer and 3D designer, and would provide most of the necessary hardware (= public game server), team forum, plus a good share of time for development, game planning, testing and optimizing.

Since this is going to be a pilot project using DBPro as MMORPG game engine, pretty much time has to be spent on game basics and planning, before a single line of code will be written.

The estimated time span from now to first official release is pretty long, about 2 years.

Nice to see someone having a go on the commercial side.

I'd recommend you take a look at some of the other projects in the works at the moment with DB. In particular, the AGE system, and maybe even the Open Source MMORPG project.

No, I'm not just plugging the project I'm working on - you may genuinely find out how others have been approaching the challenge of a MMORPG in DB. Especially with it being Open Source, you can see what's being done, at the code level.

Good luck.

Lol. Here we go again.

But guys, you shouldn't flame him for these good reasons:
1) He has a name for his game
2) He shows he can program
3) He shows he can model
4) He's put some awesome screens up
5) That video of physics looks pretty good too
6) His demo is the bomb!
7) He has proved he has the hundreds/thousands of dollars to do this
8) He has proved that he actually has Dark Basic
9) His account is at least an hour old. He deserves our immediate respect
10) Besides... Every single MMORPG that has started on this forum has turned out successful.

So who needs skills, ideas or even a story? As long as you think you can make money off the totally original idea of an MMORPG, you can do it. Good luck man.

omg, y2ksw... this is kinda strange for me to be saying this, but i reaaally don't think you can pull this off. i know you're trying to act all proffessional by having 'public relations' people and such, but so far, not one MMORPG has made it out of DPB alive (even though i'm attemting my own MMORPG; its HARD, and not always fun!) ive been working on it for 3 years. also, ive had about 4-5 years of programming and graphics experience...

a message to all n00bs trying to make an MMORPG:
1. prepare to spend at LEAST 2-3 hours per day for 2-3 maybe even 4 years at development
2. try, try, and try again. so far, i have remade my human character 10 times.... NOT FUN!
3. as a n00b, ur not special. don't think 'well, im gonna be able to do it even though other experienced people haven't'. many of these people fail (not all, but most)
4. as an UBER n00b, ur not more special than special, don't think about what i said in number 3, 'oh, hes just trying to discourage me. he doesn't know anything. i can do this.' just don't... unless, like a said in 1 and 2, 2-3 hours per day for 2-3 years, try try try again. and as an added note, prepare to spend money. so far, i've probably spent $50-$100 on my project (not counting the cost of DBP or Borland C++) which would then add up to about... $200-$300...

just my 2 cents...

If you're asking to form a MMORPG team, best have the skills to back it. We want to see some of your work.

Thanks, and best of luck with your game.

y2ksw - I'm not going to flame you. But, I will tell you what's up.

You will not get anybody with any skills without something concrete. You'll get 4.2 complete noobs who want to make the GERATEAST GHAMME EVVVERR. You need screen shots, a small demo, something. Your position sounds nice, but just hosting everyone elses work won't cut it.

Anyway, may God be with you

YAY! Another person who joins and then doesnt look around before posting! I love teaching stupid people to be smart[er].

Ok, not much to quote but you have no storyline posted. No information about the game you wish to make. You have no proof that you have done anything except make a pointless post claiming that you have done things. All you've really told us is that you want to make a MMORPG.

@everyone except the maker of the thread: This reminds me of Axeman's post, think this one will come back?

One day, an experianced programmer of many years is going to decide he wants to write a mmorpg, look for a language of choice (after X amount of years of programming you pick up languages like anything else and even if you havnt used it much you can start a BIG project in it), fiddle with the dbp demo and say yup this will do just nicely, decide he'll want a team to help out with this one - his biggest indie enterprise to date - come here and be flammed to hell. Think sod this, go off to another place to find his team and a year or two later the game will be complete and actually making money.

I just hope im around to see it

LOL. Well y2ksw you can see what the Open MMORPG team went through just to get the team where it is today. You might be better off throwing your lot in with us. It's a GPL Project so when it's finished you will be able to take the programming and do what you like with it, be it mod, and make your own commerial game or just run a server for the software and try to get people to pay a subscription charge. But we are a nice friendly bunch working towards a simula goal. Our management has alot of redudancy and will survive people suddanly disspearing from it or having enough and just leaving. We have some media already created and some impressive music. Yes, we are still very earily into the project and it might fail, but that's life, and I beleive it's worth time and effort.

If however you are just in this because you have a need to go on some kind of power trip, or dream of running the project without actally doing any of the work then Open MMORPG isn't for you.

A lot of people seem to want to do that. Magically, through their charm and leadership they will pool the wayward talents of the members of the DBP forum into the GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME. An Ambassador of Gaming, if you will, without whom nothing is possible.

Poor guy. He probably just hasn't seen what his post has turned into. Tomorrow he'll turn on his computer, see 28 messages, and think "Gee willikers, I'm really going to be in charge of a game development team. Wait until the guys hear about this one!" only to be sadly, bitterly, and irreversably dissapointed.

I have an idea for a RPG, possibly even MMORPG, and I'm working on a multiplayer-RPG right now with my team of 2 pre-teens.

But I'm allowed because I've made or am making basically every type of game so I have the experience necessary to pull it off. I don't suggest everyone makes a FPS, RTS, etc etc game - but at least make one before tackling a massive RPG project.

If you don't, you end up missing all the little tricks that make things happen in DBPro, it's vital to at least have 1 DBPro game under your belt, even if you have programmed on other platforms or program in another language or are John 'freakin' Carmack, practice really does make perfect.

Competitions are damn good motivators to try other genres, over the last 3 years TGC has had hundreds of different games submitted through competitions, covering all genres (save for MMORPG).

That's what I said to everyone in the early stages of the OMMORPG project, and I'm glad to say everyone listened. That's why we now have stages. Stage 1, offline RPG, Stage 2, RPG with limited online ability, stage 3 the full MMORPG version. Obviousally we are at stage one at the moment.

Quote: "The estimated time span from now to first official release is pretty long, about 2 years. "

I have to admit that statement made me smile. To be honest I don't see Open MMORPG reaching final release within four years, hopefully it will be done in six and DarkBASIC Professional will have improved greatly... knowing my luck by the time OMMORPG is ready the TGC will have released "MMO Maker"

You don't really become one, so much as you turn into one. It's someone who has a lot of experience, is a little bit bitter and jaded, and dwells in the forum shadows until a lonely noob steps out with a drawing of an elf. Then the Level 16 Forum Dweller eats the noob.

I guess it's like turning into a zombie...

A level 28 Forum Dweller might fight back against the Level 16, and eat the noob at the same time. Nobody really knows...

Hmm, I could say I'd be that, but I'm not really dwelling in the forum shadows. I'm right out in the open if you look for me.
