Watch these videos, and tell me that that game is not going to be the most awesome, in depth, realistic, funnest game ever made. Watch all of them, each one shows at least one more incredible thing about the game (i especially love the real time physics, and things like arrows reacting to different surfaces).

Video games…they take you places unreachable, unfeasible. Putting you in the book...putting you in the movie...putting you in a world, that before could only be imagined. expage.com/piratesmainpage.

Wow... just wow. I heard they had revamped the combat engine, but... wow. Based on those vids I will definetly buy. The previous Elder Scrolls games could get a little tedious but this looks really nice.

There's actually 25 hours to the main plot.. The whole game is supposed to take 150+ hours to complete(miniquests etc).

Very pretty. Although that's all it is for now You can't tell anything about the quality of the *gameplay* from the vids.

Having said that, this is one of only 3 games on my "Must Buy" list so far.

I want to get X3 next, it looks superb and I've not played a game like that for years, so it will be fun. But first the wife and I will finish Fahrenheit, which I have to admit is utterly absorbing, whatever I play next is going to have to be the dogs bollocks to top that.

Rich, i agree with you complete.. In the states Fahrenheit is called Indigo Prophecy, which they completely and utterly ruined in the fact that they took out a bunch of the game content to make it suitable... And i think you know which scenes i'm talking about. I really hate how it's getting to this point, they're taking away the scenes and disallowing the creators vision to be shown to everyone except for certain places that allow it.

I beat Indigo Prophecy in a couple of days, awesome story, decent graphics and amazing gameplay.

I can only second that!

But as for Oblivion, I'll be getting it too. It's absolutely HUGE!

Too bad it was delayed until early next year. It was the thing I wanted most for my 360.

Yeah, it was one of the ones i wanted most for my 360 aswell.. in fact i had it on preorder.. just last week i went and switched games after i found out about the delay.. So i made $10 preorders on Perfect dark zero and NBA 2k6, however.. after heavy calculations i figured out i wouldnt be able to purchase both games at the same time because i dont have enough cash.. So i went back yet again and told them to take off my nba 2k6 and put the 10 dollars on perfect dark zero.. so now when i go there it'll be 20 off.

Much easier to handle that.. It's surprising what adding one game can cause so much hassle.

With tax, i'm still looking to spend around $600.. Ouch.

Oblivion looks nice - but I'd never get it for the 360 - I want TES Construcion Kit, and you don't get the editor with the 360 version.

If I can't mod it - why would I want it so bad?

The same reason you would ever choose a console game over a PC game.. Developpers develop for a game console they know exactly the hardware that they need to work for, everyones gonna get the same experience.. You develop a game on PC and you have to anticipate a ton of problems with different hardware.. graphic cards etc.

Yeah I agree with Merix. If I had a PC with top of the line parts then sure I would but I don't so I have to get it on 360 if I want it to look that good.

Morrowind was incredibly boring. I kept it just because its scope was so impressive, but I can't play it for more than half an hour. This one looks sweet.

All they cut out of Indigo Prophecy was some sex scenes right? If that's the case I won't bother trying to get an import.

Very true

Definettly it looks like they really wanted to make the combat system fun to play with. The engine from 3 was good but the fighting was... not that great. I really like that new feature where you can instantly go to any cities you've heard of because I used to hate having to walk for hours(literally) to get where I wanted to go.

Yup, they cut out three sex scenes from it.. and i'm not trying to sound like a perv or anything when i say i tend to disagree with them for taking out the scenes.. But it really should be how the developper intended it to be, by doing this.. and adding in cheesey sex scenes where you see a wall and music is playing and hear the ocasional noise in a continuous loop is not -real-.. having the scenes from Fahrenheit where they actually end makes the gameplay feel much more real-like.

Damn that Hilary Clinton. Ah weel, it probably is best they did that, there is probably a general culture clash on the censoring of sexual content between the UK & US.

Yes, but they are very much a part of the plot. Not just eye-candy. The sudden increase in the 'happiness' factor (anyone who has played it will know what I mean) won't make sense in Lucas's case with the first 'encounter' removed. Besides it was hardly pr0n quality! My wife and I just sat laughing to be honest

I for one and going to be upgrading my computer JUST so I can play oblivion. It's open ended game play like all the others, and frankly it's got to be better, even with just computer AI, then ANY major MMO game out there, and think how much people spend on those things!

I've been a dedicated fan of the elder scrolls series ever since arena. They've always been first rate games, that have had some real care put into them.

I for one am encouraged that they pushed back the release date, if it's not ready then they should not have released it. And of cause the other thing is that the game is supposed to be moderable so there's hours of fun just adding content and trying out everyone elses.

Apparently the games been in development for four years, compare that to FPSC lol. Only kidding they have loads more resource.

Anyway I look forward to it with baited breath, and plan to steal a few idea's from it.

The only thing that bothers me about it is that even with their 4 years of development, gorgeous graphics engine and multi million dollar budget - it's still the same old hackneyed RPG elements over again (dungeons, elves, peasants, yadda yadda).

They really need to employ a few talented fantasy authors.

Good good, it might handle FPSC then

Time to mention the "Gothic" series again.
Orcs, yes. But no elves and no dungeons (ok there were ore mines in part I) and it's more rustic-style. They had NPC-schedules since 2001.
It's different from other RPGs. Infact it's the only RPG I really liked since UUW II. (And no, I don't get money for this- perhaps a free copy )

Thank you! Finally somebody else agrees with me. Those cliche's turned me away from RPGs long ago, until Star Wars KOTOR was released on the Xbox a few years ago. Finally there was a great RPG with a solid storyline, with something other than the typical fantasy elements.

Oblivion looks great, but if it was based on Mars in a setting like, I don't know, Total Recall, with early inhabitants and such, then I would be interested

Oneka -
Quote: "5hours of storyline gameplay..."

I doubt it, Arena had almost endless gameplay with over 100 cities to visit all with their own quests and randomly produced quests on top of the main story.
Daggerfall was supposedly going to take people 5 years to complete!
Morrowind GOTY Edition had well over 300 hours of gameplay!

If Oblivion has barely 5 hours of gameplay it would mean that Bethesda have gone and un-done everything they have been doing for the last 12-13 years with the Elder Scrolls series!

I do agree that there are loads of RPG's out there with the same-old-same-old fantasy elements. However the Elder Scrolls games have had variety in gameplay for a long time, and although Morrowind can seem exceedingly slow at times, other times it goes quite quickly. I just love RPG's, and I've played a long list of them, Elder Scrolls are some of the best I've ever seen but they're also some of the most awkward, mainly because of the fact they're designed around being free-form.

I'll be getting Oblivion, purely because I liked Morrowind and am still enjoying playing Arena, I'll eventually be getting Daggerfall as well. I will definately be getting the PC version however, mainly because you can't patch console games and all the Elder Scrolls games have gone through their share of patches.

Don't look at me like that!
You're just jealous because the voices are talking to me!

Most of all it was very interesting to (loosely) follow this project from a vague idea in the early nineties to the finished game almost 10 years later.

How is this game phyiscally going to run on anything other than a platinum grade super computer? Those forest screenies with layer upon layer upon layer upon layer of grass and folliage transparencies for huge forest environments ....

Speedtree - a middleware solution for cheap, realistic and dynamic trees and other foliage.

Pros = Fast, out-of-the-box solution that works proceedurally (you don't need artists to model trees and place them).

Cons = Sprite based branches look a little odd when you walk past them close up. Cost. It's middleware.

That's how (I've seen Speedtree working on PCs of the day - it works ok. Also works on various next-gen consoles).

Yup Gothic 3 uses SpeedTree too and from what it looks I'd say that it's also used in Oblivion.

Yeah we use SpeedTree for 1XR--- it was the greatest (and maybe the only) tree middleware package available.

I will most likely rent Oblivion for the 360 before buying it.
