I am going to be in Salt Lake City, Utah between 5th and 15th, with not much to do.

I know some of you guys live in that area, so I am wondering if you have some recommendations on places to see.

So, far it looks like some coach trips into neighbouring Idaho, looking around SLC and going skiing!

Idaho eh?

There isn't much else to do in Utah except ski (or snowboard, if you are not a pansy)

If you wanted, you could go into downtown SLC and watch them remodel the capitol building.

Have fun!

Break into Jimmy's house, and give him one slap for every silly comment he's ever made on these forums.

isn't that done yet? I swear, every time I see that building since I was born, that building had that scafolding on it

Now that I think about it, there really isn't much here at this time of the year, because it's too cold to go hiking and there probably won't be enough snow for skiing/snowboarding.

You can always do what I do...
sit on my lazy butt in my nice warm house

this is my favorite:

HAHA, so true, when I went to idaho this last year and actually noticed what it said on those plates... man I haven't stopped laughing at their only bragging rights

Well, you could drive for 20 minutes on I-80west and see tooele... its a wonderful little town with some farms. You could see a goat!

Really, go to the gateway (my mom lives in an apartment 5 minutes from it, so i go there alot and play in the arcade there). The gateway is a pretty cool outdoor mall built in time for the olympics to screw money out of us consumers with over priced *crap*. I still go there weekly, mostly for virgin records, the giant barnes and noble, and the only EB Games i've ever seen in reasonable distance of any of the 2 place's i live.

Hmm, other then the gateway. Well, Temple Square of course is a pretty cool site. Just watch your language on it.............

Lots of skiing: alta, brighton, snowbird etc. Sadly though, it seems it may be a low snow year, so you may have to deal with the fake crap.

You can also go to a jazz basketball game during that time (at the delta center), that could be amusing, unless you have bad ears (loudest NBA arena in america).

Other then that, no f`ing clue.

There should also be PLENTY of snow on the resorts by then. But if not, I'll be making a mound of snow with crushed ice in my backyard. You are welcome to have at it with your SSKIS

What to do in Utah eh?

Well, I'm from the Beehive State myself. (I hate that term. If I say "beehive state" again shoot me... Wait, I just said it... um)

There's loads to do in Utah. Yep! Ummm.. but I can't think of anything... but there is bound to be something you can do.
Don't get me wrong, I love the state. It's peaceful, the people are friendly, the air is clean, and the weather is either too hot or too cold all year round.

The Delta Center was mentioned. As was Temple Square and the Gateway. There is Lagoon if you enjoy Roller coasters and long lines. Down south further there are many interesting sites such as Rainbow Arch and Lake Powell. We do have the best snow on Earth (if we had snow). Snow Bird is expensive and overcrowded. If you’re going boarding or skiing I would recommend Sundance.

Or you could enjoy one of Utah's famous free(ish) recreational activities. Such as... Putting Coins on Railroad tracks, Cow Tipping, Paintballing, Fourwheeling, Snowmobiling, Fishing, Wasting Time, Boating, Camping, and pretending this was a longer list.

Me? I usually just sit in front of the computer all day... Yep... All Day.... I need a Life...

But feel free to do whatever you like (as long as it's legal, ethical, and entertaining, and you have the money, equipment, and time.)

Now it’s time for me to sing the Utah national anthem...
Utah, With it's mountains and valleys,
Utah, With it's canyons and steams.
You can go anywhere,
and there's none that compare.
This is the place!

Ok... Umm... This post is getting too long... I'm going to stop typing Riiiighht.. n

The computer isn't an addiction; it's more of a mental and social dependency.

Temple Square during Christmas (if you run into some missionaries-quite likly- you can use up time there ). The mountains offer several forms of recreation (all of which listed). I don't know much beyond that for SLC. I fyou go south, there more recreational fun. If your going into Idaho, it's not much of a drive into Preston to see stuff from Napolean Dynamite (I think you can rent the orange van for fun). There's also several theaters that might have something interesting to see (probably A Christmas Carol in most of them, though). There's a liger at the Bean Museum (cool for about 5 minutes, though the other exhibits are interesting too). Oh yeah, before anyone forgets, the new Cabellas is well worth a visit (supposed to be the largest outdoors store in the west).

Go to the 4 corners, then drive to Arizona, and see the Grand canyon, and you can get a beer, if you are 21 and up?

Oh yeah, in utah, beer is watered down (3.5% alcohol per beer). So go to one of the neighboring states for beer.

Might have to take a bottle of vodka with me then to top it up

and mountain dew, all stuff not available in the UK. You can keep the hersheys though, Cadbury's is much nicer.

Thanks for your input though guys, will help with my trip planning.

Grand Canyon? Jesus, thats like 900 miles south of SLC. I think it'd be quicker to get to Vegas.

BTW, if your into gambling, you can travel about 100miles west on I-80 west from SLC and you'll be in Wendover, a town full of gaudy looking casinos. But its gambling none the less...
