kill explorer.exe
you don't need it.

and the System Idle Process, that's a waste of memory

Do a search for a program called "MSConfig.exe". That allows you to turn off/on programs at the startup (notice the last tab called "startup"). It's annoying that Windows XP doesn't have a link to that program at a fresh install... but it's easy enough to make one and put it in your System Tools program group.

or go to START->RUN-> type "msconfig" in the textbox, hit enter, BAM, no searching

Which won't allow you to hit the right mouse button on the program to make a shortcut.

Nothing wrong with 27 processes. I have 34.

Why do you think that's a lot? It is pretty normal.

If you want to know what they all do, go to a website that tells you, there are loads of 'em. One example is http://www.processlibrary.com

It tells you, for instance, that the top one is for microsoft antispyware that you are running. Some of the others are for your laptop's touchpad, some for your modem.

Then you have silly ones like sgtray.exe which is a backup reminder app that runs on your system tray.

Boo!

so,theres nothing wrong with having all these processes going??

i always thought the computer would run a little faster & easier with the least processes going as possible.

i'm running 51 processes, mostly server stuff though while I work on my project.

jusched.exe is for java. you can close it for now and it'll just reload when its needed. (at least it should)
