Anyone know of a free utility that captures DirectX surfaces too? I tried a couple and just get a black screen. This is for a Windowed screen shot, not full screen or video.

erm, what's wrong with the print screen key on your keyboard? press that (next to the F12 Key) and then paste into your art program

I don't have a sig, live with it.

Manic: It doesnt work (for some things)
Batvink: I normally use Fraps myself...the screen capture bit works fine in the free version

Fraps free will do it (but perhaps watermarked?). HyperSnapDX trial too (watermarked). But if you're going to splash out and buy one, SnagIt 7 is the dogs hairy bits.

Fat kids always win at see-saw.

The world is full of idiots. But an unusually high percentage seem to appear on my TV screen.

Manic...try it. What you'll capture is a nice black square, or even a transparent square depending on what you paste it into.

If you have any DirectX applications running when you paste, you'll see them through the hole you just made in your Windows desktop.

apparently you can use printscreen if you disable hardware accleration, i've heard it works for movies so i would imagine it works for dx too, but i haven't tested it, hence why i said 'apparently'

the coolest part is that if you move the BLACK part over Windows Media Player or whatever, you can watch the movie in Paint

that color is magical

open WMP, maximize it, make the screen as big as you can (not full screen, still windowed) take a screenshot (keep the movie playing), paste it in (maximized)Paint
