Hi,

I am making a physics playground where you simply control a little vehicle around a track.

This is merely the beginning of the project so there is only one track and one vehicle to control.

Use the arrow keys to control your vehicle. Hold the return key in case your vehicle gets flipped. Press the escape key to exit the game.

I hope you enjoy it. More will be coming soon.

Hi,

Here is another executable.

I call it "The Land of the Giants". Everything is so much bigger than you. Try to stay on top, or you might be crushed under it all.

The controls are exactly the same.

Have fun!

Hi,

I have updated the code so that you can't fly around the map anymore. To some, this might be a disappointment, but I think that realism is a far better acheivement.

The controls are the same.

Enjoy!

Hi,

Another Update!

I have a menu selection, where you get to select your vehicle, then you get to select your level.

There are five vehicles, and two levels.

Unfortunately, the scorpion vehicle isn't working properly so don't select it.

I hope to add music later on and some more levels.

Stay tuned.

By the way, does anyone see those pictures in the first post, or are they not linking properly?

Not bad at all. There is currently no real gameplay and the car handling physics could do with some work but the physics and shadows are working well.

Hi,

This is the final update.

The menu screen is working. All the vehicles and levels are working. There is no sound, but then again, there doesn't really have to be.

I made this just as a demonstration (and a personal test) of ODE physics in DBPro. This game doesn't have any other purpose. Just as andrew neale mentioned there is "no real gameplay".

I will also be posting this in the Program Announcements as a complete project.

Fair enough. Good demonstration ( and personal test)!

Thanks, but it was a failure. I couldn't get any ramps to work. I don't have realistic car physics, just a cheap imitation. I just don't see me coding a racing game anytime soon. Maybe a mario kart style game...

But overall, I'd say this project hasn't been too successful. I'm now working on an FPS that I'll post about soon. My time experimenting with ODE physics is over.

You mean you're giving up?
Mario Kart physics would be really easy to code as they weren't very realistic or complicated but it was still a good game.

No, of course not. I'm just done experimenting with it. I've seen what it can and can't do.

The best thing to come out of this project is the fact that now I have an automatic collision system with DBPro. I've already created my own hit routine (http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=60567&b=6), but mine doesn't work well with racing games. The ODE command set does work with racing games, however. So maybe a mario kart style game is in the future for me.

By the way, do you see those pictures in the first post or is it just text? I put the tags in my post but still I only see text.

The image tags don't like '%20'.

Hi,

@gamesmad:

I don't know what exactly is happening. Sometimes, on my computer, I would put in about 200 spheres and the program would crash. But if I made just 75 spheres then the level worked just fine. So maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe ODE just doesn't work with 75 spheres and 150 boxes on your computer.

I'll try to make a lite version where there are a decreased number of spheres and boxes. It might work.

@pai mei:

Okay, thanks, it's working now. I just can't have any spaces in the name.

Thanks for trying the game.
