I was watching some tech shows on tv 2 days ago and they had a guest on from the site http://www.naturalmotion.com he showed a product they've developed for movie makers that simulates physics and other behaviors to replace some of the dangerous stunts daredevils do. They released a Learning Edition that is free to download and use. For the simulation they basically use a ragdoll character which reminds me of the work wabbler was doing.

I exported a video for all to see that I made in less than 5 minutes.

Download the LE and post up some simulation videos you made! (Remember to change the strobe interval to a high frame or your last frame so you don't see a strobe effect in your exported video)

Here's a render of one of the sample scenes that came with the program. The character stumbles backwards and then falls down the steps.

It's nice. We looked into using this to generate some animations for FPSC, but the version you can actually use (i.e. non-LE) costs an amazing amount of money. Well beyond most independant companies, let alone indie devs. This is a big boys toy only, and priced accordingly.

Heh, yeah

I'm not sure if that even includes the actual license to use the end results in your product though!

The rental price is for users that have a limited amount of data to create (says Garvin Haslett of their staff). I see no reason why it couldn't be used for a project like FPSC without worry.

ah yes endorphin, bloody expensive piece of software, as seen in Lord of the Rings, I would buy it if I was rich, I meant money wise, I'm not a part of the Rich Davey fan club

That's pretty affordable middleware, actually, if you look at products like Gamebryo, Meqon or Havoc, Speedtree, etc., Endorphin comes out the cheapest Middleware is where the money is.

Even though it's expensive and most of us won't ever get the money for the full version it's still great to take out some stress on the characters available in the free LE version.

For example the newest scene I worked on was having the character standing in a pose where he's holding a gun with both hands and then having an object slightly larger then a baseball smack him in the neck. Makes a dandy animation where he breaks the pose and starts stumbling backwards until he finally falls down.
