Just got back from a cinema stuffed with the amazing number of 5 people. IMHO, 4th hp movie is to the previous ones like the matrix reloaded was to the first. Dumbedore and Voldemort both came across as wusses. Not enough development of Rita Skeeter. Neither Fleur nor Hermiony got enough screentime, hehe And the first 30 minutes would be totaly imcomprenhensiable if I hadn't read teh book. And there wasn't nearly enough harry/cho interaction, not if you'd read the book at least

Good points:
dragon scene was quite cool
water scene was amazing

There was none of that in the 4th book. Pretty much just one scene, which as far as I can see, was in the film. I'm not going to see the film as I doubt it will be very good.

Hmmm yes, but harry's got butterflies about cho throughout the entire fourth book (and a bit in the 3rd book as well, in the gryffendor vs. ravenclaw match). All you really see of it here is teh part in the train, and when harry trips over himself trying to ask her out.

That movie almost sucked. It's not true to the book, omg, all those details missing... I could write 10 pages about stuff in the book that didn't feature in the movie...

If you've read the books, you'll be dissapointed with the movie. Otherwise, if you haven't read the books, I guess this was the best movie so far. But where was Dobby?

when I watch a movie that is based of a book, i pretend it's not. Because they are going to leave things out all the time. Just think of it as something completly different. BUT the problem I've noticed with the harry potter books, they leave out VERY important details from the book, and if you haddn't read the book, you would just be confused

Yeah, that's what I mean. Ok, Dobby might not be the most important character, but there's a lot of important and exiting details missing.

The problem with making books into movies is that the book is either so short that the movies feels drawn out, or the book is so long that those who've read it complain about what they cut out. In Harry Potter's case, if they wanted to leave all of the stuff in, the movie would be 6 hours long. That doesn't work for theatres, since it's all about getting people in and out and making money. Certain things have to go.

Sorry Dot Merix, it sucks.

I don't care if they leave out details from the book, but they need to do so to develop a fluid and cohesive film plot. They should have avoided the extended dragon fight scene, it went on way too long, and to just have him fly around in between the dragon's legs and such would have been a lot cooler and shorter than them screwing around on the rooftops of the castle for 10 minutes. As I watched it felt like I just kept getting slapped with events from the book, slap, slap, slap, slap, no transition, connection, or development whatsoever.

The only cool scene I wish would have been included was the world cup quidditch match, although I realize they had to make room for other events (like the wasteful dragon fight scene).

How about you leave?

Anyway, the books were good. But I think the movies always leave out some good detail. So I'll just wait until it shows on TV.

When are some people going to grow up and stop using the word "gay" to show their dislike of the HP books? I can understand they might be boring, but I see nothing homosexual about them.

Well, I just came back from the movie.

I gotta say, it was done very well. The dragon scene at the start was just as I pictured it when reading the book. I don't blame them ofcourse for cutting out alot of the good stuff because it is afterall, just a movie, and they can't possibly fit everything in.

Good movie overall. Now to wait for the next book...

They were thinking about splitting it into two movies because of all the stuff they had to cram into the movie, but couldn't find a mid point, so they adandoned the idea. I wish they had the world cup game and the s.p.e.w. thing. It was so strange...

When the first movie came out, I was afraid it would ruin the book for me. I wasn't very impressed by the first three all that much, but luckily they were so different than the books that I never really had to worry.

I absolutely hated the third movie, though. I was good from a movie standpoint, but it was so short, felt like it happened in a month rather than a year, and didn't even end... well, at the end.

I'll be seeing this later today, and from the reviews and this thread, I'll just have to try and see it as its own thing, rather than a remake of the book. Personally though, I wouldn't mind sitting through a six hour version of this movie if they included everything (I'm a big fan of the books).
