I tried:

But it just showed a black screen. Why is that?

Any suggestions on how to do this?

Hmmm, if that's all your code, then maybe I think whats wrong. Try to do like this instead:

i know you want to load a ".3ds" file but i have never been able to get it to load that way. what you might want to do is export it to a ".x" format... with this extension models load everytime... for me ...

I was able to load 3ds in an early version I think. But I know that I was not able to do it when I upgraded to 5.8.

But since 3ds is not really a game format, I agree with Smoked that it would be better to convert to X.
