Last week Rudy Versele write to me about a 4500$ competition for easter, prize from 1 to 25th position.
It's for all programmers, go to

I'd consider it if there were'nt so many stipulations that ultimately would cheapen the games entered.

Good luck though Ermes, I'm sure you'll do well. Are you making an easter related driving game (hunting for easter eggs?) or something completely different?. If I was entering it'd have to be a retro style platformer like Rainbow Islands, only collecting easter eggs and killing chicks.

I'm teh entering
Just looking around, it doesn't seem like a lot of compition to get at least $100

I just don't like how you can recycle your old games.
I like compos that you have to start from scratch none of this, here's my 3 years in progress game, changed the main character to a bunny and the coins to an egg, garbage I'm seeing...

teehee, well it's based on Space Invaders... but that's all i can really tell you (partly because i wouldn't want to let any cats out of any bags and partly because i have nothing to show yet )

[edit] oh, and it has absolutely nothing to do with easter, i asked and they said there is no score difference between easter themed games and non-easter themed games

I think the rule that allows ANY old game to be submitted is the stupidest rule. They say old games will only get 90% rating, but all the authors of megagames that are rated at 99% on their site simply have to submit their games and they are laughing all the way to the bank. We don't have a chance, but I'm hoping they will rate Easter games and brand new games much higher than rules make out.

I just emailed that guy in charge, telling him what I think about the old game deal, it a kind, professional way.

if you think about it, when you have a game that you've been working on for a year, and you see this, 500 bucks will be WORTH just changing a few things, then changing them back and selling the game. or whatever.
and 90% of the score is hardly going to scratch a game with that much work into it. they'll win it back with their better graphics, and better engine...

Why worry about it? There's no way to prove someone has been working on a game for 3 years as it is. Basically if the rules state you have to start from scratch, yet you didn't tell anyone about your current 18 month project, then you're still okay.

well in a new thread he made he did say that even if the game is rated %99 on their site they will re-judge it as if it was a completely new game (partly because some of that rating is from people who visit the site)

even with old games though i think we have a chance to get in the top 25

yes i also think Rudy write back to all the people with an email in the world.
Van B i'm making a driving game, strange isn't it? No eggs to pick up or to avoid, it's seems there's no valuation difference betweed easter/non easter games.
I hope i can make something working!
Thake it from the good side, there will be a lot of new free game to play.

Why call it an easter game programming contest and suggest to make an easter themed game...if it doesn't matter what type of game you make? It seems logical to give easter themed games some sort of bonus...it's more of a challenge

Quote: "Hi Joel,

Thank you for the remark.
But this is not true. First of all: The existing ratings on the caiman site
are NOT valid for the contest.
Read more at:
http://www.caimen.be/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=878
(this is a new topic I especially made after reading your email)

We pre-calculated the whole contest to see if the 90% was fair or not.
We suppose it will be impossible that a rating will be over the 85%.
So a new superb game will have 85%, while an old superb game will have
85x0.9=76.5%
So we expect that as good as all first places will be new games.

Today I will consult the other judges over your opinion about old and new
games.

Thanks again for your email,

Rudy Caiman"

I GUESS that's ok

Roughly 1 Pound Sterling will get you 2 US Dollars. Just divide anything in Dollars by 2 and you get the Pound Sterling equivalent.
