Hi everybody,

After I've seen Geometric Wars on Xbox, and Fog's Mono and Duo, I've started a shooter game with basic graphics but with intense action. My goal is to have fun with a lot of sprites around the screen (ennemies, particules, huge bosses, explosions...) and I'm pretty amazed how fast DBPro is with sprites! Here some screenshots, I will post new ones when
new things gets done. I hope to finish it before the end of the month.

Looks slick. Is it in pseudo-3d or is the weird box thing just a backdrop? (i.e. you can't actually crash into it)

I've done some improvements about particules apparence, added some new ennemies and items you can get for weapons and shield.

Thanx everybody for your positive feedback!

@Ibol: Hi my friend! It seems thet we had the same idea at the same time. Anyway, I'm always here to help with Starlord.

Back to Geo, I will release a short demo this evening (in France) or tomorrow, depending on my daughter baby's bottles
I have to tweak a little some details , add sounds and make the player die when he have no shield points left .

Geo demo!

So, this is a very early demo of Geo, there's only one level (when you finish it, it restarts!) but a lot of things are functional. If someone
test it , I'd like to know your fps and computer infos if the game runs under 50 fps. I also need feedback on difficulty, controls...

Hope you'll enjoy it, there is my 'baby'.

Very nice. Along the same lines of mono and that is not a bad thing. What I don't like is that boss at the end, but I didn't find it incredibly difficult.

Thanks guys. Gogetax, can you post your specs please, I don't understand why your fps drops sometime, on my two computers (the 2nd is a 2 years old laptop) things are running fine.

Things I have to code:

3 or 4 more levels with news ennemies.
New weapons, and other features like a time limited invincibility.
Main menu.
A better animation when player loose.
Better big explosion for boss.
Space key for bomb for mice with only 2 buttons.
A better player damage system. (with 5sec invincibility after been hit)

This will take 2 weeks I think...

This is very nice I only got 40fps, but then I was doing a million and one other things on my px at once

The effects on the graphics and the control system are both spot on

Very smooth

I get a consistent 60fps.
It gets very hectic very quickly but it is a lot of fun ... good work

yea i got constant 60fps but its was kinda hard , if you could control the ship like on geometery wars like arrowkeys for ship movement then it would be so much easier.

What are you talking about. The mouse movement give MUCH more accurate and easy movement. Although that may just be me and my constant playing of Half-Life 2 that make it easy for me to use the mouse.

[edit]Just went to play after I left this thread and found a bug that I could probably not recreate in a million years. Basically what happened was I died right on a triple weapon power up thing and it sayed game over. Then when the level started again I already had the triple shot powerup. Nothing that will happen often but my guess is it will work with other powerups also and you might want to fix it.

WOW! I really like it. It is really fun, and not too hard. I first was dissapointed that the mouse is used to play, but I actually really like it. Just one suggestion: you should make the smart bomb icons that tell you how many you have brighter, or easier to see. I never noticed them until I played a second time. The fps does change alot too. Mine ran at 25 fps I never knew my computer was that slow.

Nice work!!!!

40FPS. Good game, although the boss was very difficult as I couldn't work out how to escape it once it had got close. I like the way you control the ship, needing to be careful not to make it zip across the screen when you don't want it to.

Oh, thanks a lot guys, I'm now really motivated!

@Antidote: You're right, I've forgotten that!
@Ufo: Yes, I'll make that too, thanx.

About the game, I have to recode some parts because of the fps trouble. I want the game running at the same speed (speed, not fps... ) on most computers.

About difficulty, maybe this 'level 1' should become level 2?

Kind of. I think the boss and the later parts of the level belong in the second level, but the begining waves I think belong in the first level.

Yeah, that happened to me too. It isn't that strange. One of my friends is making a flash game, and there is a reset button, but the weopans stay after you press the button, or when you restart the level. The only problem is that the powerup variable isn't cleared or something.

I like the idea of level 1 becoming level 2. Level 1 always needs to be ridiculously easy even in the toughest of games. Let even those who aren't that great get some feeling of accomplishment. Get's people hooked faster.

Excellent, love the controls and look of this. FPS for me started at 66 then averaged out about 35-40 in game. Spec is a p1.2, 768 ram, GeForce2 128ram, XPSP2..

Cheers

i tried your game, and it is very cool.
mine ran at ~13 FPS ... yes, that's right, but it was still smooth.
(i have a 2.7ghz / 256mb ram, built-in (integrated) graphics card.)
it took me about 5-7 minutes to reach the boss...is that normal?
i found the 'breaks' to be a very good idea...useful...

also your vector-like graphics are nice.
curious about some of your maths...

i played it on the other 600mhz oc here and its incredibly easy, although slightly laggy so it would be best if you could add timer based movement so you can remove the fps cap without any problems.

@Dark coder: Yes, I am at the present time coding the timer based movement you're talking about, but it's a bit boring because I have to modify the whole code line by line. It's my fault, I had to think about it since the start of this project .

@Ibol: Glad you like it. About maths, there's nothing special, sin /cos /atanfull commands and a simplified (quicker) distance calculation for collisions.

Great game, French Gui!
It never drops below 64fps!

my specs :
p4 3.4GHz
1gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra

This game is excellent!
I loved those particle effects! But maybe you should add some kinda menu were you can choose between easy, hard, etc.

Still one of the best game's I've played. Once it's finished I'd probably buy it if I had to!

Lol, Don't worry it will be free!

Yes, I'm very late, and I think it will not be done before Christmas like I expected. It's because I have hard time ( ) with the timer() based movement. Every incremanting things have to be modified. I have too some trouble with Curvevalue and Curveangle commands because of that. I must buy EZrotate.

Once that part finished, I will upload a demo to check how it works on low specs computers.
