Want to start tracking for free? Need to make some music for your games? Get Milky tracker!

If you've used FT2, and wanted a win32 version then here you go.

I have switched from FastTracker2 to ModPlug-VST a couple of years back. I LOVE TRACKERS !! Download in progress !

---- After a little test :

This is probably the best Win-32 FT2 clone I've never seen. It plays 100% perfectly my old ProTracker & FT2 songs (except. packed mods). But my favorite Tracker is still Mod Plug!

Yeah this is a nice piece of work, have it running on my Mac flawlessly - was going to cover it in the newsletter, may still do so (even if only a handful of people are able to use it).

I bought an M Audio Oxygen 8, it should be here sometime this week. I'll let you know how well Milky works with midi input devices.

I think you should cover it, alot of people out there don't know how easy it is to track music even if you can't read music. Sure will help alot of DB/DBP users with their projects.

Can't beat the pricetag.

Very interesting. I've been pondering ways to make a convincing player piano in DBPro for a while (moving keys, scrolling piano roll, music co-ordinated to the keys). I happen to have a sound card that can accomodate sound fonts. I've loaded Warren Tractman's 25MB Steinway sound font into it, and it is quite convincing when I play it from my digital midi piano keyboard (can't afford an actual Steinway, but pumping this sound font through some decent audio equipment can produce surprising good results). Download it for free at http://www.pianosounds.com/index.htm

Is there a way that I could utilize the sounds produced through midi as the sound samples for the Milky Tracker?

Ahhh, retro - I prefer Trackers to programmes like FruityLoops, even though I can't really compose anything I like to play. This one does'nt look too complicated like the other modern Trackers, I'll be sure to give it a try.

Oh yeah I heard about mkt about a week ago, seems to be a nice piece of work

Quote: "- Improved mixer, improved FT2 effect compatibility (especially tremolo, tremor, vibrato)
- Scopes (finally) (only for Desktop versions)
- Configurable colors (config->layout)
- Disk writer (Ctrl+R)
- FT2 like pattern follow: cursor line always in center center
- Prospective mode and toggle follow song mode
- Volume scale (Shift/Alt/Ctrl+V like FT2)
- Load GUS patches (needs to be loaded as instrument)
- Load every file as sample (good for making noise samples)
- Dozens of sample filters
- Reworked GUI (especially menus)
- Sample offset can be shown in sample editor
- Drawing samples (but remember to turn on looping, otherwise doesn't sound good )
- Toggle Hex count for rows in pattern editor
- Show zero effect as 00 instead of dots (see config->layout)
- Improved Protracker 2.x, 3.x replay modes (see options)
- Skip through song while it's playing (with cursor keys or scrollwheel)
- Time length calculation/play time meter
- Peak meters
- Sequencer button (see order list)
- Hold the Alt Key in the sample editor to move entire loop not only loop/end
- Tons of other fixes... "

I've found myself using trackers for very specfic cases when there's something I just can't do in Reason.. generally speaking, when I've got a very complex drumbeat I'm trying to create (i.e. jungle) They're also bloody useful for making breakbeats.

At any rate, if you don't want to chip out $400-800 for a *good* setup (and by that I mean cubase, reason, etc.), trackers are the way to go
