Hey guys, I've been saving up and I've got $1300 so far, and in by the middle of january I'll have $2300. But, I'm having trouble finding the right notebook and at the right price. I'll probably end up buying before january though because well...I'm weak I can't hold out that long.

ooh, and this is related to game making...how?...well this is the first step in making my game, getting all the necessary harware If anybody was ever wondered what happend to the Gems game me and BlinkOk were working, well my pc crapped out and that was the end of that, but now or at least soon after I find the right notebook I'll be able to get started again. So, ya this is game related.

Here's my wishlist:

Now I found one that almost fits me specs:

http://www.epinions.com/Hewlett_Packard_NX9600_P4_560_3_6G_1GB_100GB_PR763AA_PC_Notebook/display_~full_specs

but its just missing the av jacks or s-video, if it had that then I'd have a winner. The reason for that is my tv is crap and I'd like to never look away from my computer. And I would like to hook it up to my stereo, I was going to buy an ipod, but then I realized that I can do the same thing with a computer.

Also, I need one with a graphics card that will handle games, like the AOE and GTA games. It doesn't have to make it look amazing, just so I can play them will be fine. I don't know anything about graphics really, so I wouldn't be able to tell anyways.

So, if you guys can help me find a new notebook pc with those specs or if you already know of one then let me know. Thanks

well, I found a notebook by hp and it meets my specs. The only problem is its used, but I can get a four year extended warranty for like $350. The total is about $2000 with the warranty, if I buy new directly from HP its about $2000 without the warranty. So I figure I buy it used and use they money I saved to buy an extra battery and maybe some more ram(another gig), and an 40gb external hardrive. But, I'm not going to buy the extras right away. I've never ordered of the net so I'm a little nervous, but I want the net to grow, so I figure I might as well put something into it, just hope I don't get screwed, lol.

Here's the link:

Used From: Compu-America (Four year Warranty)
http://www.compu-america.com/ProdDisplay.asp?CatID=0&ProdID=252293&ExportID=15

New From: HP (1 year Warranty)

And here's the Alienware so called EXTREME notebooks:
http://www.alienware.com/Product_Pages/notebook_all_default.aspx

But, they have probably have sweet desktops, I'm guessing...

Also, if anybodys ever bought from Compu-America then tell me, cause I've never heard of them...is there anyway to check to see if their valid, legal, real, etc???

Funny you say that. I don't see a good graphics card on that HP laptop. If I were to get a laptop with good graphics performance, I'd pick Alienware. I just don't feel so much like my current HP computer is all that good.

Nyaah! I shall blast this GeForce FX card into submission! Die slow Pixel-Shader 2.0 support!

Check out the Asus W3V, it was perfect for me. Very solid build quality. ATI X600 Mobility (mid-range for laptops), as much ram as you want. For me the 14.1" screen is perfect, with a nice higher res. Still light so I can carry it easily still. Not to small, not to big.

Google the Asus W3V, it's a sweet laptop.

P4 2.4Ghz HT, 512MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 128MB, 19" Samsung SyncMaster 997DF, 80GB HD

well, I don't really know anything about graphic cards, so when it says like Ge 602394029384 it means nothing to me. I just look at the processor speed, ram, and hardrive size. That Asus W3V is cool, but its low on processor speed. And those Voodoo PC's are sweet, but way out of my price range some are like 4 grand, really cool though, I like how you can customize it, even put your own tatoo pics on it, very cool.

I seen this one notebook that said it had 11.6 ghz processor speed, I didn't even think they made them that fast, the only thing that I've seen even come close is like 4.3 ghz processor speed.

Here's the link fo rthe 11.6 Ghz one:

thats crazy...

well I would say alienware but graphics wise the HP would have been okay there is such a thing as gfx card upgrading. It does have a pci express slot the newest and most compatable(as I know of).So you could just then go buy a new GFX card that is pci express and then you have a pretty darn good notebook computer.Might I recomend a nvidia GFX card looks pretty nice they have ones now with 512mb!And who knows maybe more.ATI is also another well known GFX card supplier.

My mate got a rock direct one and for about 1 year it was more powerfull than most of the desktop PC's that went to the LAN parties it was at! Brilliant laptops... Shame they're in the UK and you're in the US...

"I just look at the processor speed, ram, and hardrive size."

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! STOP!!!!

DBPro performance is 90% reliant on the graphics card - a 1ghz pc with superdooper graphics card would outperform a 3ghz pc with a crappy one, and thats where ost laptop manufacturers cut costs - Honestly, be warned! Anything thats not a radeon or geforce avoid like the plague, especially "shared" graphics ram!

I hate to say this (cos owning one would be nice) but there is no such thing as a 11.6ghz pc, not even if you immersed it in liquid nitrogen and sent it out to the Oort cloud (where its just above absolute zero), no way can a Laptop run that fast, the power requirements would make your mains wires hum, if a 3.0ghz needs 400watts then that would need over one and a half Kilowatts, thats right, you could make toast with it and keep your house warm, I think you will find its a typo, more like 1.6mhz, your paying for the expensive metal case, shock mounted hardrive and backlit keyboard, even a realy fast desktop with twin 4.5ghz CPUs couldn`t go that fast.

Windows: 32 bit extension/graphical shell for a 16bit patch to an 8bit OS originally coded for a 4bit CPU, written by a 2bit company that can't stand 1bit of competition, now available in 64bits.

ya, your right about the 11.6 ghz one, I checked on other sites and its actually 1.6 ghz. Not that big of a difference though... ...its just one digit...

And the notebook I'm looking at, the HP nx9600 has a "ATI Mobility Radeon X600 graphics 128MB " graphics card. Will that work well?
