Meh, thought it was. Wasn't anything personal I just wanted to post that. Just like this:

MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY!
MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY! MONKEY!

I sensed a little hostility there anyway.

A black guy with thick downturned moustach whos voice used to rise when he got wound up, was in loads of films and had a whole series of comedy CD`s, was Brewster in the Brewsters millions remake, the computer geek in Superman III, and was also in Green Berets iirc (amongst others).

Just a shame that the memory of such a funny bloke on a forum thread has been saturated by some unfunny idiots (manticore...)

Ironically, the strapline of his website is "Welcome to the funniest man alive" and his new DVD is called "I ain't dead yet M* F*"

The first film I saw him in was "Stir Crazy", with Gene Wilder. I've you haven't seen it, get it! It is one of the funniest films of that era (early 80s).

Could you maybe explain how the word MONKEY typed over, and over is a bad joke about Richard Pryor?

And Greed, would you mind shooting yourself, it would really help us all have a better life. Now, mind your own bussiness, bugger.

Heh, just found a quote online on a forum doing dedications to him. Basically it was something he said years ago about when he dies he wants his ashes to be mixed up with 2 pounds of cocaine and snorted by all his friends. Seriously doubt they will show that on the news Maybe over the edge, but the guy was a genius. Stand up stuff was legendary. Shame.

@Jeku: Chaplins just plainly goofy. I like some British comdians Ive seen before but I dont know there names. Would you consider a Monty Python a British comdian. Cause hes funnier. I like Chaplin though.

That's a shame, but seriously - I'm surprised he's not dead already.

Looks like all the old American talent is dying off, first with Rodney Dangerfield, now Pryor. I just hope Bill Murray ain't next!. I love these older US comedies, Brewsters Millions, Caddyshack, the old National Lampoon films, and pretty much every movie that ends in a massive, unexpected party .

Personally, I think the best, and largely underrated British comedien ever was Spike Milligan - without him there would be no Monty Python. Programs like Little Britain are funny, but they're also complete rip-offs, anyone who's ever watched League of Gentlemen will see where they've completely stolen ideas. I prefer Catterick and Still Game, Shameless is really good too, although that's not strictly comedy.

Yeah, I laughed a couple of times then stopped. Can't believe how much hype that show got.

Oh, and my fave comedian is Dave Allen (now sadly dead too ). Fantastic stuff. And early Eddie Murphy was brilliant. Richard Pryor standup was also amazing. Must get some DVDs....

Pryor's flawed legacy

Many people have nothing but praise for the late Richard Pryor. Here's an article that states that he was actually much more of a negative role model than a positive one:

duh he was a negative role model. But media is flawed in that good comedy is always negative. It is funny, but negative. I wouldnt let anyone under 16 listen to Pryor's records, or tapes! It is horrible what he says...but real funny. I hate media anyway, so I guess thats my bias

And Kate Moss is the only supermodel to ever touch cocaine....

Really, that article is just the sort of article that should result in the author being punched. Like did anyone NOT know that Pryor took drugs or liked pornography, but yeah, he uses the N word too, he must be evil, just like every gangster rapper out there. Personally I think he made millions of people laugh, exactly what he set out to do - anything apart from that is irrelevant, just like bringing Bill Cosby into the discussion as an example of a good role model.

I very much disagree.

If a black man is ashamed because Richard Pryor only fueled the fires of racism, why would you want to punch him?

Erm. Really? The guy practically lived off drugs. Not exactly a positive role model there... That isn't really the point. The guy was a legend as a comedian. Not as a role model (well apart from copying the comedy style obviously). Most celebs aren't exactly good role models. Love the Beatles. They did a lot of drugs..... Still like the music.

Tobias,

Because Pryor did more for black entertainment than he, or most likely anyone else will ever do. He's a part of black history and cheap shots from some never-heard-of writer a couple of days after the mans death is in very poor taste.
